Rose Bowl Turf Article

The field looks immaculate tonight, no doubt.

What's more, after the BCS title game, the Alabama and Texas end zones, as well as the midfield logo, will be parceled into 3-by-3-inch sections, freeze dried and preserved under glass, then sold as game-used collectibles. The first batch of mementos will be made available to the players and their families.

CooL!

Sure seems like it would be like a loose carpet. I just don't see how the grass could really take root and be firm. Hope they know what they're doing...

The field today at the Rose Bowl was one of the most beautiful natural surfaces I've seen.I hope the field looks as top notch when the Tide rolls into Pasadena.

No way I thought that field was natural turf from watching that game on TV.

That turf had since the 22nd of November to settle and take root, though.

I don't really understand this kind of thinking. :rolleye2:

I talked with a guy that owns a sod/irrigation company that has done MLB stadiums, College venues, golf courses that host PGA event every year and he said this is risky as heck. 50/50 chance the field will come up in chunks worse than the Cirtus Bowl.

He said everything must go 100% perfect or their will be issues. He did say the Rose Bowl grounds crew will be working that field 24/7, rolling it and doing everything they can to keep it smooth and pressed down. He said the grass will probably be cut Wednesday morning before they paint the field. Said keeping it at about 1 1/2 - 2 inches will be best. I am thinking a little bit taller field might be to our advantage. (Help slow down Shipley)

if it slows down Shipley won't it slow down our guys, too? It's not like we're a bunch of slow white patio furniture that needs the 'let's cut the grass to our advantage' trick like notre dumb.

I just wish the Bryant-Denny turf could get anywhere near that kind of attention. Our playing surface always seems to be shot by the end of September. With all the upgrades to the stadium, why can't Bama seem to find anyone who knows how to keep the field in pristine condition??

The climate is just a little more ideal in So. Cal to what our crews have to face in BDS. Also, this year, the rain (too much is bad too) really hurt the field.

I'm really surprised that they would overlay the field that was used for the Rose Bowl game. It looked perfect on camera. They must know what they are doing though so I assume there wont be any issues at the seams.
