Re: Rumph to Texas

So, does this mean that Bama has processed USC without even playing them? I mean, if Coach O comes, then Saban will be over the Trojans last 2 head coaches. Interesting...Confusing....and Remarkable all the same. And also, very smart. rtr

Does anyone else feel like we are living in the middle of football Bizarro world? These hirings make perfect sense on paper, but Lawd Have Mercy they are interesting! LOL!

Saban will have effectively trolled the entire football universe while hiring two of the best coaches in college football in their respective positions.
Yes. Every time I get on Tidefans the past few days hear Twilight Zone music. But I really like Kiffin hire and would love for coach O to be our DL coach.

Re: Rumph to Texas

Kiffin and Orgeron might not be head coaching material but each are top level guys as coordinator or position level assistants. I'm not going to complain when Kiffin seems like a better philosophical fit than Nussmeier and a recruiting upgrade. Coach O is well respected as a talent developer on the defensive front and also a recruiting upgrade.

I don't think we're done with the coaching staff overhaul either. Saban is going to avoid the "mature program" stage brain drain - something that cost Mack Brown and Tommy Tuberville - like the plague.

One bad hire followed by another. Undeniable recruiting skills, but neither is distinguished coaching wise. I'm disappointed.

Lol yes, all the previous SEC head coaches will be calling Saban asking for a spot now. Saban processes you as a head coach and then you end up working for him.

Definitely entitled to your opinion, but as far as position coaches/coordinators as well as recruiting, they appear to be very distinguished among peers and those in the know. Head coaching has been their weakness. Smart hires IMO. Hope Coach O joins the Tide. rtr

I'm surprised Coach O has been unemployed for a month but I think he was testing the waters for head coaching positions.

What does it mean, to be distinguished coaching wise?
To me it means that people in the profession hold them in high regard for their coaching of positions or being a coordinator. Not every coach is good at being a head coach. I think that is what some are doing with these two coaches. When they are allowed to coach smaller parts of the team, they excel, they just can't handle the day to day duties of a head coach.

Re: Rumph to Texas

If Coach Saban thinks Coach Kiffin is the right man then i LOVE IT. If he thinks Coach Orgeron is the right man then I LOVE THAT too. All of the experts on here are entitled to their opinions but their opinions versus Coach Sabans opinions are 1 to 1million in my book.

Come on board Coach O, would love to have you with the Tide!!!!

Or hire assistants as good as they are/were.

@coachingsearch: Several coaches here at the coaches' convention believe Saban will target Brick Haley, which could lead to Ed Orgeron joining LSU.

Haley is from Gadsden and played at ALA A&M. He has done well with the LSU Dline and would be a good hire IMO.

I, for one, could really get on board with this hire. LSU has done a really good job shutting down BOTH pro-style and HUNH offenses over the past few seasons and the DL play has been instrumental in achieving those results. Have also heard Rocker's name as a possibility as well.

Bruce Feldman just tweeted that Ogre to Bama is highly unlikely to happen.
