Well, he's one step closer. Collins will soon join former teammates Eddie Lacey (Alabama), Eric Reid (LSU) and Kelvin York (USC) to the college football level. The big question now is where will he end up? Collins has already made his official visit to Alabama. Next up is LSU on Nov. 24 and Texas on Dec. 9. He's also considering Florida and Tennessee, but it appears both the Gators and Vols are on the outside looking in.

"They are all even," Collins said. "This is something that I talk with my parents about on a daily basis. We talk about all the schools. I'm just taking it one step at a time and to be honest, I just want to have fun with it and not stress out about it. This is a once in a lifetime thing."

What amazes everyone who knows him is how well he has handled the pressures of recruiting and being one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation.

During the Under Armor Ceremony for Collins today interesting that Eric Reid shows up for the announcement.

It's a packed house here at Landon Collins' presentation. And Eric Reid just showed up.

I assume he may not have classes today and understand he went to the same HS but can a current player of a school recruiting him attend the announcement, I know they might be friends and what if they are their to recruit? Just curious.

players arent coaches. Recruiting rules dont cover them. Players and recruits meet on visits and stay in contact often. Greg Reid contacted Javy a lot when we were recruiting him, almost worked out too.

I understand on visits when they act as host and that I believe only when the visit is an OV. I know they can talk and interact on campus just like with the coaches but I thought off campus certian rules applied just like with coaches.

Actually had to look up the rules and according to the NCAA unless the contact is unavoidable and incidental than it is not a violation but the fact is Reid showed up for the event to be in attendance which means it was not unavoidable or incidental. Even if LSU had no knowledge which I doubt but I will give them the benefit of the doubt, Reid went their with the intent to be at the event for Collins announcement. It is not like he was just on campus and ran into Collins. He actually attended an event that was pubically announced prior for Collins to receive his UA-AA jersey. That was not incidental.

13.1.2.7 Student-Athlete. The following conditions apply to recruiting activities involving enrolled student-athletes: (Revised: 5/29/08)

(a) Off-Campus Contacts. Off-campus, in-person recruiting contacts that are unavoidable incidental contacts between enrolled student-athletes (or other enrolled students) and a prospective student-athlete are permissible if such contacts do not occur at the direction of a coaching staff member. If unavoidable incidental contact occurs between a student-athlete and a prospective student-athlete (even at the prospective student-athlete’s high school), such contact is permissible, provided the institution had no prior knowledge of the occurrence of the contact. (Revised: 5/29/08)

13.1.2.7.1 Effect of Violation. A violation of Bylaw 13.1.2.7 shall be considered an institutional violation
per Constitution 2.8.1; however, the prospective student-athlete’s eligibility shall not be affected. (See
Bylaw 16.01.1.1 for violations involving student-athletes.) (Adopted: 8/5/04, Revised: 5/29/08)

Collins, whose birthday is Jan. 10, reiterated his plans to use the game as a stage of sorts to announce his choice of school with his finalists being LSU, Alabama, Texas and Tennessee.

"We're all about education," Thomas Collins said. "Education comes first. Football is football but we want him to have a life after football. It's going to be strictly about education."

Collins will have more time to devote to his recruiting process until his Jan. 5th decision date.

That and LSU's coaching mantra, "Cs equal degrees". In other words, do the bare minimum to get by and hopefully you walk away with a degree. I'd hate to try to skate by and carry a 2.0 GPA my entire college career. Sounds like a recipe for flunking out if you asked me.

According to talk going around the Internet and Twitter, Collins current longtime girlfriend is an Alabama fan. It is also being said that she is headed to UA for school. If that turns out to be the case then that can only help Bama's chances with Collins.

Or hurt them depending on the girlfriend....

It wouldn't surprise me if Reid showing up was a violation, and it also wouldn't surprise me if Miles encouraged it, but it's pretty well acknowledged they're among the best of friends, so how can the ncaa regulate friendship? I'd want to be there if one of my best buds was getting such a high honor, and it's crap if the ncaa rules forbid it. I would hope it would be allowable for a preexisting relationship, especially when the subjects in question are from the same school.

A.J. showed up when Trent committed if I remember right...of course, they were both recruits at the time.

If the relationship can be established prior to the player becoming a recruit than it is allowed as long as the player is not there to recruit. You know he is because they are friends and of course you want your friends to come play with you, but there is no way to prove it and I would hate for the NCAA to set some precedent by trying to determine every time these kids talk what the jist of the conversation is. Now if the staff is exploiting the relationship to gain an advantage that is a different story.

IIRC the staff told AJ not to show up to Trent's announcement.

Now, I understand supporting your friend. I really do, but why would you drive to be at an announcement that he is playing in an All-Star game? Doesn't seem that important to me. I can see his commitment announcement or his NSD signing but an announcement that he is playing in the UA All-American game, really?

AJ was there with Fluker as well.

Yeah but I am confused because AJ, TR, and Fluker were all part of the same class in 2009. So the NCAA has no authority on whether recruits recruit each other but they do treat players as they do coaches the same regarding contact with recruits.

You are correct. There is no problem with fellow recruits visiting and supporting each other. The problem is with coaches and college team players showing up recruiting in public, especially if it is covered by the media. At that point it becomes public record and a secondary violation. The only question is the pre-exiting relationship deal. That would be the question in my mind with Reid and Collins in this situaion. I am sure that LSU approved the visit but you never know.

LSU fans seems to be really worrying about Collins and he is trying to be an EE. I kept hearing that his GF will play a big role on his decision and the LSU fans are not happy about it. I saw a link to his twitter and there is a picture of him with his GF who is decked out in UA gear. She will be attending UA next year and if you follow the tweets those 2 are lovesick for each other. LSU fans seem to think if he goes to UA it is only to follow his girlfriend, which is fine, but I think he may be a little smarter than that. Either way I hope she can help. RTR

Will be announcing Jan 5th(UA-AA game) per his twitter
