Link: Saban interview about his relationship with Alabama

Now I feel better about him,and sounds like some others too. Now I can call him {coach} and not saban. Thanks for the post!!!!!!!:BigA::BigA::)

I think it's pretty damn cool that our coach invites us to be a part of the team!

Or a part of the process!!

He's not only saying "Believe in me"...he's saying..'I believe in you too".

That's why he's here folks. I'm telling ya.

He feels the passion and he respects it.

One exceptional man, coach, human being.

I especially like the part when CNS says, "I'm proud to be part of this family, and I'll be here until you run me off or I just can't do it anymore. I'm home."

We've debated many times here on Tide Fans just how long CNS will stay at Alabama. I hope with the things he says in this interview, this means he will retire from football coaching at Alabama. I would love to see him stay at Alabama another eight to ten years. I'm with Alasippi, I think CNS is hands down the best coach in college football. I thought that when he left LSU and still think that today.

Wow is all I can say, because that really does not sound like Saban. I hope the journalist/interviewer/whatever did not fluff it up some

I am extremely surprised

Don't flame me. It's just I did not expect him to say that anytime soon, especially the part about him staying until he is run off.

You can flame me...i'm speechless. We are all family with one common thread...we love Alabama. We have the best school...best fans and the best damn coach in the country. You gotta love it!!!:BigA:

When I first heard Coach Saban was coming to be head coach at Alabama, I had chills run down my body just like I get at every Alabama game kick off. Reading this article sent the same chills. I can't wait till VT game because it's the beginning of what's coming. 08 season was just a warm up.

Sounds like Coach Saban has finally done what a lot of us have been waiting for--he has finally 'fallen in love' with our great program and truly desires to end his career here.

I started a thread a few months ago, asking if Saban was only a hired gun.
Got blasted and apparently deserved it, as it turns out. "Hey Janice (wife), come over here and wipe this egg off my face." Nobody is more tickled than me to hear him say that he'll be here from now on, because certainly nobody will ever want to run him off. Best coach in the whole dang nation, and only a matter of time till we're boasting another National Championship. So good to hear him say that he has bought into this Bama craze.

I've posted in the past that I thought Bama was Coach Saban's last stop before he retires and this article makes me feel soooo good. Excuse me, I think I'm going to cry tears of joy now. :BigA:

I'm ready for some football now! And the daze of summer still lay ahead - what to do?:mad2::eek2::biggrin::BigA:

Great article. Coach Saban is the man, glad he is here and bringing Bama back to where it belongs.

I don't know how many times I've wondered how long he would be here and dreaded the day when we would have to find another coach given the past decade or so. Great to hear him put into words what so many of us desired. Welcome home Coach. I can sleep better now.

Where's the countdown to gametime clock? Let's play some football. :PDT_Armataz_01_37:

That's awesome. Was it Ben Pollard on fRan's staff that said that he "caught that Crimson thang" or something to that effect? Sounds like Coach Saban has too. You had to figure that it was inevitable though, Alabama is the only fan base in the nation that can match Coach Saban's intensity. :BigA::BigA::BigA:

I personally heard Coach Kines say that he did what a coach should never do and that was to fall in love with a school.

Although it won't win any journalism awards, this was an awesome article in many ways, if just for BAMA fans. No one outside our fanbase will lend it much credence, but thats okay. They are irrelevant anyway.
For instance, I learned that President Witt is not only very active within recruiting and seems to be very involved in all facets of the athletic program which is unbelievable. :eek2: I had no idea he was that involved. I'm fast becoming a President Witt fan.;)

However, hearing Coach Saban state that he is 'home' until he retires is what Bama fans have been patiently waiting and hoping to hear. Mainly because most of us knew he was one of a very few championship type coaches that could handle the job and pressures that go with it (and there are many), if only he would be willing to embrace it. Let's face it, we're not an easy bunch to manage. I truly believe most BAMA fans have felt all along that if we did only have Coach Saban for even just a short time, that it would still be worth it. We knew his fondness of LSU, and his time there, but we didn't care. We needed him and his ability to turn things around. We've felt that way, hoping all the while, that eventually the fever and passion for Alabama football would capture his heart, as it has other great ones in the past. I'm thinking it has.
What I found interesting in the article, is that he is somewhat forthcoming about it and mentions how he was indeed overwhelmed by some of that very pressure and scrutiny early on but has finally settled in and loves it here. I'm glad because no job, no matter how much money it pays, is worth sacrificing happiness. I'm sure its no different with Coach Saban and his family.

For all the flak that Coach Mal Moore has received over past hires, he should be given major, major kudos by every BAMA fan for delivering the grand slam home-run hit, that is Nick & Terri Saban, to BAMA football. (Lol, yes I'm aware I just used a baseball analogy for football, but you get my point.)

Thanks, Mal.
Roll Tide everyone. Looking forward to football season!:BigA:

OK, I'm going to have to rain on this parade just a little, but before I do, here's the good part:

Saban is the best possible coach we could have hired to regain Bama's position as a national power. I wouldn't trade him for any other coach, and even though his process doesn't seem very complex, I don't think we could replace him when/if he chose to leave. It's one thing to know that you should be "driven"; it's a completely different thing to possess it. However, if he's here long enough, the momentum created by Saban can be continued by a lesser coach. Look no further than Baton Rouge to see evidence of that.

Nick Saban is a man of few (and very calculated) words. Lest we forget, just a few short weeks ago during spring practice, Coach Saban called the fans out in regards to the attitude surrounding the bowl game. I haven't followed things that closely, but I heard some of the backlash on talk radio. I'm not saying Saban was right or wrong, but his program and his process are built on perception. This article reads too much like a Yang to balance the Ying of those comments. Saban really needs to be evaluated in a "big picture" frame of mind, or you risk falling victim to emotion. Saban probably doesn't really love us like family. Yet, he probably doesn't dislike us as much as one could infer by only focusing on the comments about Bama fans having a "cultural problem." What we must realize is that Saban views us as a commodity; just like the program's staff, facilities, etc. Saban will, at times, shape us to meet his needs. Just like rennovating a weight room, there will be times when Saban takes a sledge hammer to us and slops us with a new coat of paint. Then, there will be other times (when he is giving a media "tour") that he will talk about how shiny we are, or how we represent such solid construction.

This is still a win/win for Bama fans: Win #1 is that all the quotes from this article could be sincere. If so, we're set for the foreseeable future. Win #2 is that even if these thoughts don't truly represent Saban's heart, he is voluntarily painting himself into a corner that would be a media nightmare to get out of. I think he was genuinely hurt and concerned by the backlash surrounding the events of him coming to Tuscaloosa. A coach like Saban, who recruits on perception and sales pitch, would have a hard time regaining credibility if he left Bama in a bind.

So, my position is that we shouldn't get the warm fuzzies thinking that Coach Saban loves us like soul mates. But, we should be pleased to know that the best possible coach is on our side, working to make our program the best in the country. He knows how to do it (his way), and if we fall in line he will get us back to where we all want to be.
