Most of the stuff out there is very easily debunked if you put any thought into it at all. But they are not selling these points to people who want to debunk them. They can say almost anything as long as it leads to Saban landing at Texas. We believe what we choose to believe.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

The three really boil down to one point - Brown and Saban consider themselves to be friends. Even if Mack knows about this, Saban isn't going to allow any of his actions tsabotagege Mack's message going out the door. Right now that message is still that this is Mack's decision, to stay or go.
Unless the man has lost his ever-lovin' mind, he would NEVER behave that way. He wouldn't talk to Mal Moore until his season in Miami was over. He didn't assemble a staff till he agreed to come here. The man does things properly and by the book.

I heard that there might be a new head coach at Texas. Someone told me that the new coach would be someone we all knew. I also heard there is a man trying to sell the Brooklyn Bridge from the Williamsburg section!

He also did not coach Michigan State in the bowl game after the 1999 season.

May not be accurate, but they said, "Mack Brown". Thanks though, you're probably right.
The board of Regents voted this afternoon to retain the president, Bill Powers. According to Bohls, one of the sportswriters for the Austin paper, Mack will be meeting with Powers and the AD this evening.
Edit. To be precise they took no action on Powers, so he remains.

@ChuckCarltonDMN: Also got further confirmation that Bill Powers and Mack Brown will not be meeting this evening.

Probably already been said here somewhere, but it sure seems like the "get Mack out the door" contingent inside the Texas athletic sphere are the "insiders" leaking all of these "Saban to Texas DONE DEAL" statements. After all, what better way to get the fanbase, alumni, boosters, and the Board of Regent members on their side about shoving out Mack than to continually float the possibility of Saban coming to be their coach? After a few days of watching all of this unfold, it's clear to me that this whole saga has been a power play to get Bill Powers and Mack Brown out of the door. The first stone to fall of course was DeLoss Dodds a few months back, and now the targets were Powers and Brown. Reports indicate that Powers will be retained now, so I wonder what direction this show will now take? Will Brown indeed step down now?

Yup, and now they're claiming that Mack has 'decided not to step down and is digging in his heals in an effort to derail the Saban deal' (paraphrase), so they have their scapegoat when CNS doesn't end up in Austin...

All I know is I'm as confident that Coach Saban will retire at Bama, but, I sure wish he would get the extension on his contract signed..Cause it does get tiring reading about all the rumors being put out by the media..Cause the longer it goes on, and no matter how many times he tells recruits that he's staying & will retire at Bama..It's eventually going to hurt in recruiting..As long as these stories & rumors are out there..Rival coaches will use it against us in recruiting & recruits will believe the rumors over the man himself when he tells them they're not true & he's staying at Bama where he will retire..

He also did not coach Michigan State in the bowl game after the 1999 season.
Which actually adds more credibility to his statements about not planning to be at Alabama when he was at Miami. He finished out the year with the Dolphins and would not talk about next year.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Anybody with any sense needs to be listening to KrAzY's posts. He's got it figured out.

All this ridiculousness from the Texas masses wanting to believe in something that was never even a real possibility, combined with the anxiety and breadth of the Bama fanbase (our worst fans are really VERY bad, and we have more of them due to the larger "sample size"), along with the immediacy of social media and the deification of those who quote what the texas fans wanted to believe simply led to a simple case of "Mass Hysteria" on both sides.

Someone's gonna be able to write a book on this phenomenon one day. It really is quite humorous.

I don't know what they are really offering him, but why would he stay? If they are going to offer him a package well above that required in his contract, and he knows that they want him gone, what would drive him to stay other than spite?

Honestly if you're worried he'll leave after all that's been said by those close to him, than a new extension won't change that. The talk will continue until the Texas situation finalizes.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

IIRC, Brown's buyout is only $2.75M - pocket change to a University that supposedly has more money than anyone else. If they want Brown gone, he's gone and it's easy.

Indeed, that is how it is playing with their fans on their boards. Even those who still like Mack are getting angry at the notion that Mack's ego might cost them Saban. Someone is really playing games on those boards. The members are being manipulated.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

God forbid someone want to keep doing a job they were hired to do and enjoy doing it. If the buyout is that low (I think Cheesy's was higher), then it is pocket change compared to what they want to pay Saban. Fire him and get it over with if you are going to do it. But don't blame Brown for not quitting.

Brown's number one responsibility is Mack Brown. If he were 80 years old and unable to even stand on the sidelines anymore like Paterno in his final games, that would be one thing. But he can still do the job and wants to keep doing it.

It's Texas and they have more money, more politicians involved, and there's a rather complicated relationship with Mack Brown.

Texas is kind of like a Hydra trying to eat a cow.

No where in my post did I say I believed he would go to Texas, I have no doubts he'll stay, my post said recruits will eventually start to believe it the longer it drags out..

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

So you're saying that Earl is in on the 'Saban-to-Texas' scam? Quick--somebody check the planes to see if Earl has been to Texas in the last couple of weeks...
No, I've been solidly nailed to HSV by work, although I've been talking all day to an Oklahoman (IRS agent)... :D
