Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I understand, and share, a strong desire for CNS to stay. I don't understand uncontrolled hand-wringing.

Step back and look at the forest for a moment. I don't think we will lose CNS, but WHAT IF WE DID? We'd pull out all the stops to identify and try to bring in the very best next HC we could find, whether that's Coach Smart or someone else. AND we'd keep winning.

Have faith in CNS, yes. But don't forget to have faith in the Bama football in the process. They aren't the same thing, and the latter is why we've dominated college football for generations, why CNS is even here, and why Bama football will remain dominant after he's gone, whenever it happens.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

At this point I think it is safe to say anyone who believes he's not at least thinking about taking an offer from Texas is living in a fantasy world. My point is that if he absolutely intended to stay he wouldn't entertain offers...and if he was going to entertain offers he never should have said a word about his long term commitment so recently and all the unequivocal comments that he's not going anywhere and which we're echoed by his wife in a prepared interview. Especially considering his history. Do you believe he's not at least considering taking the job at Texas?
Evidently I am more comfortable in my fantasy world than you are in yours...hope yours gets better--I really do...RTR!!! And no, I don't think he's considering it...but that's just my fantasy, I guess, since NO ONE really knows (at least none of us)...

Maybe he has no intention of leaving, but knows that if he holds off on signing, the new contract on his desk will get a little (or a lot) fatter. I'd do the same thing if I were in his shoes. Just because he hasn't signed yet doesn't make him a liar or mean that he's entertaining the idea of leaving. Maybe it just means he's a savvy negotiator.
Unless I have totally misinterpreted the mods it seems that they too believe he is at least considering a move.

I do not believe that he is currently considering an offer from Texas. I have no doubt that they have made an offer, but I believe that this is his agent doing his job and Saban just letting him do it. But I also believe that if Alabama came back with an offer lower than the offer made by Texas, that Saban would stay.

In other words, this is a game. Saban could tell his agent to sit down and shut up, but that is not how it is played. But just because Saban is playing does not mean that he is really considering the job at Texas.

They have not said exactly that.

We don't know the complete extent of their concern. They can't tell us, so we have to speculate about that too. I would say some are at least somewhat concerned.

No way Saban said that.... He may be thinking that but he surely would not tell a recruit that...
Similar things have been told to recruits in the past. A few years ago Saban told A something similar regarding the titans job. He's probably said this to every one he's seen over the past few days sunset it's likely the first question to come up at every visit

Or maybe it is already fat enough and he wants to make it a bit fatter for some assistants. None of us know and probably few of us ever will know what is motivating him at the present.

Then why not just say "I want X or I quit"? If bamas concern is to keep him as coach why would he need to allow this drama to continue? Or are we only worried about losing him if he goes to Texas? Moreover if you are correct and he will stay for even less than Texas would offer, then all more reason to tell him to fulfill his current agreement without a raise? If he truly intends to stay and has no intention of leaving then he will stay for his current salary.

OK, so, those in the know: how many days since last Friday has CNS been out on the recruiting trail?
I know he was out yesterday and today (at least news reports say who he was visiting), don't know about Friday - Monday.
