I didn't know that Beilema made that much. A quote from Modern Family would seem to fit the Arky AD then.

Just heard Phil Savage being interviewed on WNSP out of Mobile. He said based on the information that he has heard over the last 12-24 hours, he feels like CNS will stay at Bama. He said that this situation is mainly agent driven.

Seems that the "contract on his desk" is not an issue -- and wouldn't be anyway because CNS can leave when he's ready to leave. So. . . is everyone's worry that UTx is the best threat in recent years to lure him away? I'm not understanding the angst on these threads. Maybe it's therapeutic?

He's the greatest coach of his time, just like Coach Bryant was of his. Hopefully, Coach Saban will coach here for years to come, but if he chooses to leave or retire, we've been lucky to have him coach our teams for seven years. JMO

At least two - one in Houston, and one in Baton Rouge. The one in Baton Rouge has 96% occupancy, so it is probably going to make it now that they found financing for their debt. The one in Houston is the larger concern, though I think that it has mysteriously resolved itself recently too (no credible source, so no link).

That is the one in Baton Rouge. Sounds like someone helped them find financing in a time when CRE financing is tough. I am still not sure what happened with the Houston deal. Looks like Saban owned 49.5% of a deal that was ~$22MM short and filed for bankruptcy protection 2 years ago.

As more comes out on this situation, the picture is becoming clearer and clearer.

Saban is out doing his job, landing the best class he's ever had.

UA was proactive upon hearing the rumblings in Austin about Mack Brown being pushed out. To protect their asset (Saban) and keep him happy, they started drawing up a commitment to reassure Saban that they would make sure he is the highest paid coach in college football. Whatever other concerns/needs he has (be it asst. raises, facility changes, etc.) are being negotiated. It's been agreed upon in principle with details to be worked out.

The folks in Austin are various levels of crazy. They are in disarray right now with several factions, too many blowhards and "sources" who want to act like they're in the know but they're not. They're in the process of firing their President and all sorts of changes/mayhem. A portion of them are all rabid for Saban. Others are still backing Brown. Still others would like to go a different route, but they're making a play for Saban. Their interest has provided leverage for Saban, but it doesn't appear he's truly interested in leaving - he may have looked at it, but is probably still convinced to just stay where he is like he and his wife promised for months now.

We have been mislead by the media and hacks (big shock) and are just NOW beginning to see the picture getting clearer.

I could be totally wrong, but that's the way it looks from my vantage point.

call me old fashioned, but as an alum, I have always considered the university of Alabama to be an educational institution first and a sports program second.

In theory I agree with you. But the reality of it is this. College football in America has become an obsession. An obsession by the fans, the media, the business world, the universities etc. Fans will donate millions to the university BECAUSE OF the success of the football program. Colleges will pay coaches salaries their educational staff can only dream about because the college knows the millions (and some cases hundreds of millions) they will bring above and beyond what they've paid the coach. That money doesn't just benefit the football program. My sister is an alum of LSU and was there shortly after the national title was won back in 2003. She said all of a sudden classrooms started getting upgrades, they started getting all new technological equipment, the campus started getting upgrades etc. Do you think it was a coincidence all these upgrades happened relative to when LSU's football program started booming?

The entire college benefits. Not just sports or the football program. If Alabama refused to get involved in these high salary bidding wars for football coaches and decided "We're simply not going going to be a part of that anymore", settled on a mediocre coach and the program started to settle in at winning 8-9 games every year and a decent bowl appearance. Would the college cease to exist? NO! Of course not. But I can tell you the college would suffer from the extra monies no longer being available to them from the success of the football team. You can guarantee the upgrades across campus and in the classrooms would more than likely not happen. If I'm a college president I look at the obsession with football and the amount of money it stands to bring in and can't help but take a big picture view and want to tap into that revenue stream to benefit my entire institution.

Honestly, I really think this is TX causing ALL of this. BIG Heads, Big Mouth & Big Money.

TX is OT getting Saban, now who wants the Job?

Who wants to deal with this mess?

There is a big difference in what Alabama did going after Saban vs what TX is doing now...we had a solid President & AD that had the support of the Board to act. TX does not, they bicker over who's boots & hat are better, it's a mess where forget CMB a second, the Pres may not be there. Most of the leaks about talks have come from TX board members.

My guess is they end up with an Asst from somewhere or someone like Terry Bowden.
