Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

That is the one in Baton Rouge. Sounds like someone helped them find financing in a time when CRE financing is tough. I am still not sure what happened with the Houston deal. Looks like Saban owned 49.5% of a deal that was ~$22MM short and filed for bankruptcy protection 2 years ago.
What's the name of the development/developer in Houston?

Wouldn't you hate to be Burton Burns right now? Should you talk about the issue… or leave it alone? Awkwaaaard.

I bet it comes up...in the 4 minutes and 38 seconds that CNS allows for "chit-chat." I bet those flights and drives have almost zero down time. I'd love to hear their chats on the strategies for the next person they're visiting, etc.

I'm guessing Saban more than likely has disclosed to his staff his plans. Especially someone like Burns.
Likely… but still, do you talk about it or leave it alone? Can't see it in the pic, but there's surely an elephant in the back seat. :)

My guess is, since all of this hubbub is coming from Texas's side, they've been laughing about it. Not the angst that Alabama fans have been in over it, but the stupidity of Texas.

I'm surprised CNS doesn't have a lap full of legal pads and 3 ring binders. He knows when he's about to get his pic taken though, and always appears clutter free.

to be fair, the angst of Bama fans has been quite humorous :)

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Completely agree. For us to attract a top-level replacement we'd instantly be in the $4-5M range. We'd have a massive setback in terms of coaching turnover, recruiting, direction, marketing, etc. And all of that to add risk of unknown future results compared to the fairly predictable success Saban has and should continue to have. If you figure that 5% of your net revenues are at risk due to a change like this you're right in the ballpark of saying the premium above the base required is $5M netting a salary figure close to if not at $10M.

I'm not saying it's fantastic, or that we should be happy about it, but the economic, business and financial analysis would show he's clearly worth $10M. If the market backs it up, why shouldn't he ask the University for that?
Agree. With the current market for a good coach, $10M is a very attainable number for someone who, by most people, is viewed as the very best. To reach that number all CNS would have to do is say nothing, sign nothing, and wear a burnt orange tie to the Heisman ceremony in NYC. Then, when they introduce the coaches of the finalists, give the camera a wink and flash a big smile. When he walked into his office the next Monday he would be able to get $10M easily, if that's what he wants.

If I were CNS I would almost have to do this - not for money, but just for giggles. Can you imagine? The innerwebs would go nuclear!

We're at that delicate transition point. Mike^3 is still recent enough that we're not sure coaches love us, but the 3 NC's has triggered some arrogance. The interplay between the two is certainly on display.

Random tangent on Coach Burns. I read this al.com article on the coaching staff's salaries and was surprised to see that Burns was the second lowest paid. That man should get more than that based solely on his recruiting ability.

By all indications from most media folks - both schools have the ability to drive the number up to the $10MM number, just most agree that neither has the stomach for it nor do they believe it is in the best interest of the game.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I can't imagine more than $7M a year. Check this:

Of the nine pro coaches who make more than $6 million, eight of them are in the NFL: Payton, Patriots coach Bill Belichick ($7.5 million), Chiefs coach Andy Reid ($7.5 million), Seahawks coach Pete Carroll ($7 million), Rams coach Jeff Fisher ($7 million), Redskins coach Mike Shanahan ($7 million), Giants coach Tom Coughlin ($6.67 million) and Eagles coach Chip Kelly ($6.5 million).

If a college coach gets paid to much it is going to cause a massive effect even through the pro ranks. He would be the highest paid Football coach.
He is a better coach than any of these guys including his buddy Belichick.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

If we survive this attempt by Texas to steal our coach, is there another program with deep enough pockets to come calling and who do you see as that program?
