Yeah, I could see a situation like that reducing the risk of failure for a first time HC and better setting him up for success. Especially for a big time college football program.

I also think a common struggle for first time HC's is how to successfully manage the entire team rather than just being responsible for their unit, as they were as a coordinator. Football history at both the college and NFL level is littered with excellent coordinators that were bad head coaches because they couldn't handle the entire ball of wax.

That's why when it comes to the Alabama HC'ing spot. I'd rather hire a guy who has successfully done it as a HC rather than taking the risk of hiring a coordinator and finding out through the failure of your program that he couldn't handle head coaching.

If Saban next left years I it will be Marico Cristobal he run a physical offenses plus he know how bama a works. if Saban walks away in 3 to 4 years i say it Pruitt If he keeps wining. I do not think Bama will ever hire Dabo.

GMac knows about as much about what Dabo would or would not do there as pretty much anyone who follows this sport closely. He is a smart guys, but apparently not smart enough to avoid giving opinions about that which he could not possibly know.

Did he have an opinion about the lottery numbers to play tonight?

GMac knows about as much as what Dabo would do as you or me. The truth of the matter is only Dabo (and whatever he discloses to his family) knows what he wants. I'd also point out that it's one thing to say what you would do "if" you got an offer. It's another thing altogether when you actually have one in front of you to make a decision about.

As I've said earlier in this thread. Competitors enjoy the challenge of getting to the top about as much as being at the top. I see it in my 9/10 year old baseball team. They cannot stand playing bad teams and the game is basically over after the 2nd inning. They get bored. However, they love playing good teams and being in competitive environments, and these are 9/10 year olds. But that's athletes. That's what competitive people like, regardless of age. I still say it could be very possible that Dabo gets very bored with a 13 game schedule of what amounts to scrimmage games. Challenges are just as enticing as living on conquered goals.

Hope you're right, Buzz. I'd like to have him in Tuscaloosa after Saban hangs it up.

I've posted in the past that there is no logical reason Dabo would leave Clemson -- his current gig is just too easy and too lucrative. Your point is that logic doesn't always win the day.

*And that maybe why he would consider leaving. There are discussions on Clemson message boards discussing how boring the regular season is and they're hoping Notre Dame turns out to be good this season because that will probably be their only "real game". Even their fans know the other teams in the ACC are crap.

**I don't think it's logic as much as people don't always put the same value in some things as others think they should or would. He could make the same money in the SEC (satisfying the lucrative component) but the challenge would be more difficult. A lot of people get bored with easy. We can't assume we know what Dabo's career goals are.

I discount what Greg said because he qualified his response as a former player. Greg doesn’t know what it was like growing up a Bama fan. Then realizing a dream by walking on and earning his time on the field. Then, Winning a championship after all that hard work. That is a lifelong love.
That all said, I don’t think Dabo will leave because his family is entrenched in Clemson after all these years. His kids probably feel the same about Clemson as Dabo felt about Alabama.

Honest question that I know none of us knows the answer to:

If 2020 CFB season is delayed or even cancelled altogether, what impact would this have on Saban? He's not getting any younger, and this would give him a taste of life without football. Something to ponder and hope doesn't happen.

Edit: I don't think a delay has any impact on him as long as he still gets to do what he loves, but a complete cancellation could change things.

If you have read some of his comments, I think it cements the fact that he needs to be coaching to have joy in his life. I think he is lost without coaching. He will be around a while.
