This Is The Big One: The Gators and Tide Tangle Again

"Most rivalries are built out of proximity or history or long-standing relationships," said former NFL quarterback Gary Danielson, who is part of the CBS broadcast team for Saturday night's game. "This rivalry has been born out of greatness. The two teams, their level of play and their excellence on the field has forced each other into a rivalry.

"They are not natural rivals. It's become the premier rivalry in college football because of their excellence of play over the last five years."

They say that greatness cannot be demonstrated without great opposition. Think of Ali-Frazier for instance. This kind of competitive excellence is a rare thing. We are privileged to witness the demonstration of greatness within a rivalry that is founded in competitive excellence rather than simple rancor. While there may be no love lost on either side, it is clear that there is a lot of respect. The tradition of Bama is as unassailable as the achievements of the Tide under Saban. Florida has been arguably the most dominant NCAA team since 1990. More than just a football game, tradition itself is being contested and built this Saturday. The battle to be fought will be part of the larger war waged in the history books.

Here's hoping Game of the Year Part 1 will be a clean, hard-fought game with no injuries.

May the best team win.

Great post and I concur, but it should be "may the better team win".

Nice post. I think Florida is in a good position. Not many really think Florida has much of a chance against Alabama. But if we throw out the first 3 games of the season and just look at the last game, people might think differently. One thing I've learned is that it doesn't matter how a team has played in the distant past; it matters how they are playing now. I hope we are at our best because I think Florida is at their best right now. Makes me a little nervous.
Roll Tide

You Gators are used to this, while I am still pinching myself to see if I am dreaming. After wandering in the wilderness for some years it sure feels good to be back on top.

I will agree it is a Championship game rather than a Rival game.

great post. i dont know about you guys down in gainesville but i am out of my mind nervous. roll tide!

Good article, and true that. Welcome to the board...

Bama and Florida is not just in the upper echelon of college football, but are the upper echelon of college football right now.
I'm not one of those fan's who thinks this one will be a blow-out either way...something tells me this one will be a knock-down, drag-out today. Just hoping we come out on top.:BigA:
