Opposing defensive coordinators wiil no longer be able to just spend 30 minutes preparing for Bama offense.

If you look at Florida's offense, it isn't nearly as effective as Meyer's last year at Utah. To run that misdirection-based stuff that FU tries against SEC defenses, you have to have a very, very fast HB and QB. The QB runs that are more effective for Florida have been the more power-style runs with less trickeration. The basic difference between Oscar and Rod's offense is that Rod's is based on power rushing football. Add Pat White's WR speed and you have a very lethal combination.

He seems very enthusiastic (like Coach "O" at Ole Miss). I think that will be a positive. Kids thrive off optimism and energy.

I'd be willing to bet he'll turn Alabama the way Urban Meyer turned Florida. Everything's there, the talent, the coaching and the support. He's in a can't lose situation.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. IMO CRR is not going to roll into the NC or probably not even the SECC game next year after all this is still the SEC. Second, the talent is not there yet, while it is better it is no where near the level of UF, UGA or LSU and probably won't be for another couple of years. I do however feel that teams like UT and AU and Arkansas are beatable next year given their talent is not significantly better than ours. It will however be a year of transition and that is an unknown as to how quickly our players can adapt to CRR's system. Again, IMO win or lose next year I at least will have the belief that we will be in every game to the end and won't have to sit around knowing what the next play is and waiting for the inevitable offensive collapse. All things considered I think the opposing coaches realize that it will not be business as usual in Tuscaloosa.

Graytide's right. We need more talent on both sides of the LOS. I'm hoping some of the RS OL will take away some starters' jobs, but the second string DL this past season was pretty weak. Hell, our stronger players aren't even on the LOS. I imagine S&C will take a new direction immediately. I'd point out, as has been done above, that he's not signed yet. Remember Mike Riley and Butch Davis...

I don't know if fear is the right term but there will be a much greater amount of respect for Bama and when RR's offense gets fully installed I think fear will then be the key operative word. I just hope he focuses on some defense as well.

Undoubtedly the other coaches around the SEC will have to do quite a bit more game planning for Bama, even in this first season. It won't be a walk in the park anymore and maybe the other coaches will actually have to worry about what we're gonna do in the red zone other than try to line up for a field goal.

My feelings exactly. I think CRR and Bama will regain respect from the rest of the SEC.

It kind of seems that way to me to, like he's basically painted himself into a corner where he has to leave WVU. If the Miami position were still open he would have that to play off of, but now we are definitely the best job available.

Another variable:

The '07 schedule is tougher than the '06 schedule imo.

I don't think we lose a lot to graduation. A fullback, a linebacker, two defensive tackles.

We should have been a game or two better than .500 in '06. I think we can only hope to be a game or two better than .500 in '07.

hes got alot to prove, that much is for sure. Hows his defense going to be? will that offense work?

That being said, hes a great coach IMO. Ever since his days at Tulane as OC I have liked the guy. But he still has to prove himself in the SEC, as they all do.

By the way, people saying that Urban Meyers offense would not work in the SEC have hardly been proven wrong. That offense still sucks. UF won with defense and special teams. If Meyer would have just ran a pro style offense with the talent he had, he would have been 12-0 and no questions asked. Everyone points to LSUs talent, but look at the All-SEC loaded with Gators and UF had an easier schedule than LSU too, who had their 4 toughest games on the road.

As it was, everytime he had the o moving he starts trying that gimmick, double reverse BS and it blows up on him. Name a game (outside of UCF, USM and Western Carolina) where the UF offense was impressive or even played well.

we'll see. But you know, who cares what other teams think? Everyone dogs on Miles, but the guy is 21-4 despite having a painfully thin group of O-linemen over the last two years. Miles is recruiting very well, with our best class since 01 coming in, and he hires VERY well, look at the hirings of Pelini, Peveto and Lane for instance, and he pays them very well, a detail he had worked out with LSU from the start.

So who cares what others think, you got a good, smart coach and he will probably be very successful. Congrats!

The lack of fire power on offense has been our achillies heel for quite some time. We usually put an above average defense on the field yet do not have the scoring potency to make a championship run in today's college game. Our only shot of making a championship run was to have such a dominating defense that it made up for the lack of offense.

I think if we get RR things will truly balance out. We won't NEED to put so much stock in a dominating defense. We don't have to put the entire load on our defense to make perfect execution, three and outs all the time.

Other SEC teams (assuming RR signs on) will begin to have to respect and actually gameplan for our offense. I doubt we'll be "tipping" anymore plays or being labled as "predictable". I also project averaging more than 17 pts a game.......even in RR's first season.

Florida's offense is ranked #21 in the nation (ahead of Notre Dame, Texas, USC, among many others), and #2 in the SEC behind LSU (LSU averaged 5 yds/game more than Florida).

When comparing what Florida's offense did against top SEC teams to other SEC offenses, you will find that Florida was close to the top of the heap (their offensive success wasn't just against bad teams). For example: against top SEC teams LSU averaged 47 yds/game more than Florida but less TDs. When comparing Florida's offensive stats to Tennessee in the same situation, Florida averaged more yards and more TDs than the Vols.

The jury is still out on whether the spread can be really explosive in the SEC, but it is successful.
