I was just wondering, aloud, why it seems Senior Bowl Week gets much greater national attention than in-state. My answer was not "jealousy", but ignorance of what really goes on here this week. I think alot of folks in state don't realize this is THE convention for the NFL.

I think the NFL gets much greater national attention than in-state. An NFL convention isn't much more exciting to me than a convention of ventriloquists or zookeepers.

Well, obviously you have never been to a ventriloquist convention. Good stuff.

(But as far as Senior Bowl goes, do keep in mind that it is full of college player and coaches too. Its not just NFL. Basically it is a pro and college festival for a week. You would think a state sports reporter might find some good opportunities there. I guess not though.)

NFL channel is covering every practice....on cable also, btw...

They showed BC throwing 22 yard outs today and they had alot of good things to say about him. CMS was interviewed and he commented on how BC can make all the throws and is an exceptional on the field leader. The 49ers staff also commented on his immediate presence in the huddle.

i also watched a pass rush/blocking drill but only saw about 4 plays. The RB from Memphis (Williams) showed tremendous strength when he was tossed aside by a bigger man but regained his composure, got low, and came back and made the play before the defender reached the mock QB.

F Roach blew right past his guy on an inside move and D Ryans tried a speed rush but the blocker made the right play and let DRs momentum carry him beyond the QB and out of the play.

Mark Anderson

FWIW... Scout.com reported that Mark Anderson looked good in today's practice (Tues-24th) and even got a few reps at LB - thought that was interesting

Yep, they probably want to draft him bad to add to their already deep roster of former Bama players (Jason McAddley, Terry Jones Jr., Saleem Rasheed, and Justin Smiley).

Can someone who has previously attended the senior bowl comment on the possibility of buying tickets outside the stadium before the game? I had my wisdom teeth removed Wednesday and my wife and I assumed I wouldn't feel like going so we didn't get tickets. Fortunatly I feel very well and would like to take my wife and son, but the web site says thay are sold out. Any information would be appericiated. Thanks.

kind of long...fan frenzy

Just got back from the "Fan Frenzy" at the Mobile Convention center. Luckily, my wife and I avoided a near disaster. The players were available for autographs from 4:30 - 6:00. We got there at 4:05 and found a line for the "south QB station" that stretched out of the main auditorium all the way to the escalators in the lobby area. My son (and the rest of us) are big DeMeco fans so we jumped in the LB line, which was not as long as the QB line. After waiting for nearly 2 hours and making it two players shy of DeMeco, the Senior Bowl "officials" made the players get up because it was now 6:00. I know that they have an itinerary to follow, but my kid was crushed - I'm talking alligator tears! He's nine years old, plays LB and was the Defensive captain of his mini-mite team this year. He's way undersized at only 50 lbs, but hits like a truck (he's like a mini Zach Thomas :D ). He absolutely loves DeMeco, and Freddie, too. I had to think quick, so I told the family to head to the area where the crosswalk connects the center to the hotel. I was hoping that we might catch some of the players headed back. Well, bingo! We were able to get autographs from Freddie, Roman, and DeMeco. They were all very gracious and represented Alabama very well. I felt like a kid asking them to autograph my Greg Gamble print of "the catch". Anyway...the kid was happy (tears turned to smiles), wife happy, and Dad was happy! It was a good learning experience because, next year, I think we will just attend one of the open practices.

Funny story about NFL vs. college

Was up in Minneapolis for a week long seminar several years ago (interestingly the same weekend that Shaun Alexander set that rushing touchdown record against the Vikings of all teams - that is another whole story sometime) and was discussing football with several other lawyers from all over the northern regions at dinner one night. I was trying hard to get back in time ot make it for an Alabama game that weekend and they were all kidding me by telling me I could not worry myself and just as easily probably catch it on tv somewhere. I relayed I had tickets and tv was not an option for me (certainly you guys all understand where I am coming from - I mean TV or BD Stadium - that is a no brainer! Anyway they got to discussing their love of the Packers and Vikings and various other NFL teams and asked me why we were such fanatics about College football instead. I finally quipped back to them that maybe it was becuase we actually went to college down south so it was easier to relate. Needless to say, the norther union boys were not too pleased with me!

Sold out?? I watched it on TV, and there were so many empty seats it looked like a UAB game. The majority of ticket holders must have been the scalpers outside the stadium.

Watching the Sr. Bowl on TV, I thought the Bama players looked pretty good. There was a lot I couldn't see on TV, of course, but despite a couple sacks on Brodie, I thought he did well. Nothing that would hurt his chances in the draft. Unlike what I saw from Shockley and Hackney, who I thought were terrible! The TV crew and the coaches spoke very well of Brodie (regarding the whole week) more than once.

The Bama defensemen seemed to be all over the place...of course there were several in the game. Anderson had a good game for sure.

This is not something I've been keeping up with, but I saw a possible draft list during the game that showed Vince Young being picked by the Titans. I'd like to see that happen. Would renew my interest in the Titans. Never been much of a pro football fan, but whoever takes Brodie and Demeco will get my interest. Just as Seattle has with Shaun Alexander since he started with them. Go Seahawks in the SB!

The stadium was packed at the beginning and is always packed.

Also, most people leave early after their favorite players are pulled (They dont want to wait until the 4th quarter to watch them again).

One more thing...The Senior Bowl for the most part is a huge tailgate party...when game gets boring...people go outside and start partying again.

But to your defense, the stadium looked really bad on T.V.

I was there and it was actually really packed at the start of the game. I know that a lot of folks that were sitting around me left at halftime and did not return. I assume they went back out to tailgate. Most folks started leaving in the 4th qtr I guess due to the score and also because there were some really dark clouds rolling in. The local weather stations had been predicting rain in the late evening. Other than the 4th qtr, the crowd looked really strong and more than what I saw from the other all-star games.
