I no longer believe that Bama gets equal treatment in the SEC. Should they consider moving to another conference? It may be too late to join the ACC, but the Big East is weak and would absolutely love to have Bama - and they are a BCS conference.

Thoughts?
 
leaving the SEC would be a horrible decision. it would do more to damage bama than anything the NCAA has done. first, geographically speaking, it is the only conference we can be a part of. the big east...think about the traveling...NJ, NY, PA, WV. the closest game would be in KY (louisville). plus, our recruiting would be crushed b/c what kid from the deep south
wants to play rutgers and syracuse instead of auburn and tennessee?

the ACC probably is done expanding. the big 12 is full, and the big 11 is too far away. plus, the SEC is still THE premier football conference in the nation.

leave the SEC? not a chance!
 
Okay, I guess that I am the only one that has totally lost respect for the SEC and its leadership. When I talk about the SEC, I have nothing good to say. The schools have hired back-stabbing leaders and integrity has disappeared in every program (except Vandy). Don't get me started about conference leadership - the words criminal and incompetent come to mind.

Sorry, I am no longer proud to be a member of the SEC. Integrity matters...

We need to stay in the SEC. Say if Bama goes to the Big east and wins the N'tl Champ. every year who else in that conf. is gonna carry the load financially. Its all about the benjamins.

Bottom line is the sec knows what school butters their bread, we'll be back to winning more and winning brings respect.

Just because the SEC doesn't seem to respect Bama the way it once did, doesn't mean that there are a lot of problems with it. Sure, there are some issues that need to be repaired, but frankly let's not forget that we (or at least our boosters) have caused this problem. We dealt with our first run-in that was bogus and it was behind us and then a few idiot boosters decide to screw us. If there wasn't anything to find, we wouldn't have plead guilty to even minor infractions, which cost us. Had the NCAA never seen the campus against after the Jelks/Langham stuff, we would not be in this position today.

This isn't all the SEC's fault!
 
For hopefully the last time; We are not leaving the SEC.

We are not leaving because we're ****ed about our dealings with the NCAA, and we're not leaving because the ref's missed the call last Saturday. You see sometimes the people we play get bad calls, and sometimes we get them. It's all part of the game that's played down on the field. Ref's make mistakes and so do players and coaches. I was as frustrated as any of you over that no-call, and I nearly sprained an ankle jumping up and down. However, I never took it to the point of being a confirmation or as further evidence of the "Great Conspiracy". I don't buy it. To me, it's a silly thought that has become somehow believable by a handful of posters here.

I'd like to bury it.

I have heard a few people argue reasonably against leaving and for considering our options. There are also a few posters who care little for the opinions of others, preferring to call this notion stupid. Well, it is not stupid. This conference is corrupt and lacks leadership (no, not game rigging, but corrupt rules inforcement), and there is no evidence that there will be any change in the near future.

The money and prestige associated with membership in the SEC comes at a price. This conference is a laughing stock. There is no media conspiracy. ESPN and every other network talk poorly of this conference for a reason. Pull your heads out of the sand.

While I would prefer to fix the problems in the SEC, I don't see that happening. If it cannot be fixed - we should leave. Integrity matters...
 
Alabama leaving the SEC. That has to be the most ignnorant idea I've seen in a long time. The SEC may be "down" a little this year, but year in and year out it is the best football conference in the nation, one of the toughest in baseball, and it is steadily improving in basketball. The SEC has one of the largest pay-outs to it's schools than any other conference. All around, it is the most respected conference in the nation. Alabama would have absolutely nothing to gain by leaving. There is no conspiracy against Alabama by the SEC. And like Streyder said, it just gives other fans crap to laugh at us about to see fans mention leaving the SEC because we ar not "respected". And if we weren't respected, it would be no ones fault but our own.

It's not necessarily stupid it's just implausable. Just the financial ramifications alone, not only to us but to the SEC, would be tremendous.

Exactly - Leverage our willingness to dismiss that income while the SEC would lose income and we may be able to force change. That is why I offered option #3. To dismiss the possibility out of hand is to throw away any leverage that our school's prestige brings to the conference, IMO...
