Shula Statement

I say we agree on the fact that MS is a good person.I really wanted him to work out at Bama and even with the lack of experience I hoped he would grow into the job. However, the same ole no change = stable mantra just became stale. It seems his ability to seperate program loyality from staff loyality became an issue that couldn't be ignored.I wish him well and really think his life will be fine!

Agreed. However, perhaps separating his loyalties wasnt a lack of ability for him but rather an issue of integrity for him, which is my point. It is that quality I respect.

cheers

the bamanation just lost a true warrior, and believer in the university. he has had a lot of adversity as coach. he took on a difficult job in correcting the direction of the program, which was in complete turmoil. no one wanted the job except he and crooms. both diehard tide men. will one got the ax, and the other is still coaching. of course miss state is not the prestigeous institution alabama is, but, maybe, they have the patience to allow their coach to continue. he has by far had a worst record than mike. gee 10-2 in the sec, loss 7 starters on defense, starting qb, a very average off line. everyone should have know this team would be 7-5 at best. lost a game to arks, because of a freshman kicker, and losing to a miss state team with murder on their hearts. the team not mike was unprepared for that game. well, played 4 top 10 teams on the road and could have won 2 of them. who else could say that. yes, coach shula is probably to loyal, and maybe he is just naive enough to believe in that. doesnt he know winning is everything. i believe mal moore, or maybe the boosters should have stressed that more. well now, the tide gets to see what they will get for christmas. a real coach or a pretender. i doubt many real character coaches will come running for this job. if it is about the money, they will come. but, the alabama tradition, and past is over and evidently forgotten.

Whose fault is it that the offensive line was average/below average? Lost the ballgame to Arkansas with a senior kicker on the bench and because of lack of chosing to try to score a touchdown in the first overtime instead of just playing for a field goal and using a kicker who had already missed two kicks either of which would have won the ballgame in regulation.

Look, I personally like Shula, but if he can't see that changes need to be made or won't make those changes out of pride or loyalty or a combination of the two then he's not ready to be a head coach. I know those other coaches were his friends and all, but friends are friends and business is business.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the comment he made after the UT loss, " I thought we had done enough to win. " Scoring 13 points against anyone in the SEC is usually not enough to win.

Roll Tide.

I know this is tough on you fans; we can relate. It is bitter-sweet when a former player (now the coach) is fired.

We went through the same thing at Arkansas. Former players love the University and really want to do a great job. Its hard to watch them be fired from the School they love.

I hope your University is very careful in how they handle hiring the next coach. Letting go of a former player/coach sent our "UofA" into a 7 - 10 year tail spin....

Good luck.
