Siran Stacy on Finebaum

I know Finbaum doesn't get a lot of love on this website but his interview today with Siran Stacy was absolutely remarkable. Siran's story continues to be an amazing testimony. If some of you missed the interview I think it is worth downloading it from the finebaum website.

Finebaums actually a decent human being. I've emailed him several times either ridiculing him or agreeing with him. He's always written me back regardless, and never with an attitude.

I think he appreciates his listeners.

Probably because they pay the bills :)

But he's not the devil.

I like Finebaum, as far as I'm concerned he's the only decent sports talk radio host in the Mobile area.

But not to hijack the thread, I too listened to the Siran Stacy interview and I agree with Blake55, if you missed it, try to catch it, you'll thank yourself for it. Siran is a remarkable man and a real inspiration for anyone trying to fight through a personal tragedy or setback.

I agree with you. Really he is not a bad guy at all.

I think there are probably a number of people here on Tide Fans that do not agree with us, but you hit the nail on the head.

Paul or , Pat

It is well worth listening to . Siran received a touching call from his remaining daughter - The Paul Finebaum Radio Network : Named Top 12 In The Nation!

I'm looking forward to listening to this, though I'm sure I'm not prepared for it. Finebaum has his flaws, but when given a chance at a serious interview, he's as good as they come.

I shed a tear listening to that today...Siran's faith has carried him through one of the most unbearable trials a man can face...the loss of 5 family members...what a testimony he has today...to show that God is much bigger than anything we may face here on earth. Very powerful stuff...

I listened also, my three year old son was in the back seat ( his child seat of course) and kept asking, " Whats wrong daddy, whats wrong?" The more he asked, the more I teared up.
I was on duty the night the wreck happened, my station ( at the time) was on the same highway, only a few miles from the wreck. But it was out of my territory. We did not know anything about it until the next morning.

still waiting on hearing the Stacy interview...but in the meantime Paul has been talking about Nick Saban saying in public the day before that he doesn't listen to Paul...where was Saban when he said that - what interview?

I can't link a particular interview, but Coach Saban has said many times that he doesn't listen to sports shows, watch sports shows, or even read about sports unless it pertains to a looming game. He's too busy recruiting, coaching or watching film.

He may not per se but I'm sure he is aware of what is said. If he wasn't why would he mention it at all? Why would he single out one host? Why would he say that comments from PF effect some his players?

The interview was great. PF, like was said in a previous post, is an excellent journalist and an outstanding interviewer. Like him or not some of today's "reporters" could learn a lot by listening to interviews he does.

I know he doesn't, but Finebaum was talking about something he had said the day before, and was wondering what interview Saban gave...but i have since heard what he said ....so nevermind :)

Finebaum is an excellent journalist, if you are into the idea of journalism that has prevailed since about 1980, which believes that it must be "objective" and "realistic," with emphasis upon feeling rather than upon achievement. In my opinion, Jim Murray of the Los Angeles Times and Furman Bisher of the Atlanta Journal pioneered this sort of journalism in the world of sports.

It seems to me that the old Birmingham News sports journalists such as Zipp Newmann, Benny Marshall, Alf Van Hoose, and Clyde Bolton, were a different breed. These were the type of sportswriter favored by Bear Bryant. They could take you down onto the field, carry you through a winning team effort or even through a tough practice, and lift your spirits, whether you were a fan or a player.

Siran Stacy's story is truly heartwarming -- and heartbreaking -- and today's sports journalist seems ready, willing, and able to tell such a story. Nevertheless, I prefer the old Grantland Rice tradition of sportswriter represented by the likes of Newmann, Marshall, Van Hoose, and Bolton. It was more about the game itself with them than about "the rest of the story," as it is with writers such as Finebaum.

Here ya go...:)

Saban, President Witt, Vice-Provost Nelson speak on integrity

“We live in a very negative world — everybody’s criticizing everybody,” Saban said. “There will be a lot of [negative energy] externally for you to listen to and get affected by if you choose it. And it goes back to who you are, and it’s not what everybody else thinks — it’s what you think about yourself.”

Saban joked that he never listens to the Paul Finebaum radio show, which is often critical of him. He also said in his first year as head coach at Michigan State, he once replaced a player that had missed an important kick even though he knew it wasn’t the best decision.

“I made the mistake of reading the newspaper. They killed the guy,” Saban said. “I got affected by that. So I changed kickers, and the new kicker missed the next kick of the next game, and we lost the next game because of a kick. It changed my integrity to my other players and the commitment to the principles and values that I believe in, in terms of playing the best players.”
