So ... Quarterbacks

At this point, with JC & CB performing at similar levels, CB, being a sophomore, may have room for the most improvement game to game.

Add to that CB's the most athletic/mobile of the pair. IMO he should be QB1 from here on. Barring forcing the INT he did well. Just appears, so far, our best option given CNS & CLK can tailor the offense to fit.

JC didn't have a great game. But, the O line didn't help. JC was running for his life, especially from the young man that is the ex-marine.

I am good with whoever CNS thinks gives us the best shot to win.

RTR!

Happy to see the Tide roll over MTSU! Didn't see any major injuries and I hope that holds true. The QB situation? They both need to throw more accurately. Movin' on to the Jets today. Go Jets!!!

From Facebook.

some of coker's passes are so inaccurate they look like the ball must be covered in chicken grease.

he and bateman are both thoroughly average at this point.

if we can't remedy their spotty play and our kicking game continues to stink up the joint, we will lose at least to games this year and possibly more.

There is a reason that JC started both games. Yesterday (unfortunately), I didn't see CB do much to indicate that he should be starting next week.

It's funny how freshmen QBs are making a difference for teams all over the country, but somehow ours isn't ready.

Amen! I really am not convinced Blake Barnett would be worse right now and he'd be gaining valuable knowledge.

I'm going to trust saban to play the guy that gives us the best chance to win,but if Barnett is anywhere near JC and CB in practice.I don't see why he can't get playing time this year,Especially if we lose a game or two.

I'm not a coach and I surely don't have all the answers. I'll trust the staff on their personnel decisions as I am not there at practice every day. My personal opinion (which counts for squat) is that if Bateman and Coker are that even as far as ability I would play Bateman as he has more time to learn for the future. Some on here would cite winning now as to why Coker is the best option (and this may be true) but if they are essentially even then I would think that odds are we'd win as many games with Bateman as with Coker. My personal opinion aside, though, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the season come what may.

IMO
The starting QB is still a question. It's a cinch that against Ole Miss, Coker will either cement the job, or loose the job. Bateman didn't step up and take the starting job yesterday... Right now I'm more concerned about our ability to stop the OM passing game. We haven't exactly set the woods on fire stopping anyone from throwing.

At the game yesterday, me and a friend commented that if Bateman could clean up some of issues throwing the ball he is the one that gives us the most diversity in the offense. He can effectively run the read option and is a legitimate threat to run. It's obvious he doesn't have the arm strength to stretch the field the way Coker can but he does seem to see the field better. In all he seemed manage the team better stay on his feet better. He looks like someone he had more experience playing the position which taking high school careers into account he has alot more playing experience than Coker. But he does need to know his limitations. His problem is he throwing to many swing passes right now. We don't know what Bateman's true down field ability is because he hasn't shown it.

To me Coker gives you the ability to stretch the field but his accuracy is lacking. But he can't avoid the rush very well.

Either way teams are going to load up to stop the run. I don't know which QB is the best option right now but I think with more playing time I think Bateman gets you closer to the kind offense we had last year which I think we will need to control the ball.
