Softball 2026-expectations?

Bottom of 7th. Not a pretty sight for BAMA as they are down 14-7. This game started out with errors, and our pitching did not hold up at all today. Arky has scored in 6 of the 7 innings in this game. They have also hit 4 dingers, including a grand slam. Pupillo walks to lead off. Giles hits it hard to the pitcher. after a bobble she underhands it over the first baseman's head. BAMA has runners on 2nd and 3rd, not outs. Roman grounds out to 2nd, 1 down, run scores. now 14-8. Hawkins HBP. Runners on the corner, 1 down. Taylor pinch hitting. Hawkins to second, now 2nd and 3rd for BAMA. Taylor grounds out to 2nd, 2 down, run scores, now 14-9. Griggs pinch hitting. Griggs grounds out to 3rd, game over.

Arky up 14-7 after 6.5. BAMA pitching could not keep things close.

This team is not getting what it should from the veterans ...Hawkins, Giles & Vandergriff have just been a liability at the plate. Vandergriff has a lot of upside but she doesn't have the arm strength for Center Field.
 
BAMA got bombed today. Our pitching gave up as many HR's in this game as we have all year. 4 dingers, including a grand slam. Our pitching could not shut them down, but our bats couldn't keep up either. Starting out with 2 errors that gave up 2 runs in the first inning didn't help. Also, after we took a 7-6 lead, we never got another hit. Can we take the series. We'll find out tomorrow how BAMA handles a loss for the first time.

It looks like Grand Canyon University is now the only undefeated softball team out there as both BAMA and Tennessee got their first loss yesterday. I hope we can come back strong, especially in the circle. We scored 9 runs but there's not much the defense can do when the ball is sailing out of the yard. Bounce back ladies!!
 
BAMA wins the series vs Arkansas with a 4-1 victory today. Briski went the distance and only gave up 1 run on a solo HR in the 6th. Stellar performance in the circle today, and BAMA got the timely hitting today. Great job by the ladies to bounce back from yesterday.

According to RPI rankings on the NCAA website, Arkansas was ranked #6 based on games played through 3/14 (yesterday). They were 4-1 on the road, so undefeated except for us. After today's game, they're obviously 4-2 on the road, with the only losses to us.

We, on the other hand, were ranked #2 behind only UTe, and after today's game are now 4-1 against Top 10 competition. Other than losses to us, #6 Arkansas is 23-1. Other than losses to us, #10 FSU is 22-2.

We have a midweek home game against LaMonroe, then a weekend road series at Mizzou.

Mizzou is struggling. At 12-16 overall, their RPI is #65. 0-3 in the SEC, being swept by Florida last weekend in Gainesville. Their RPI is #15 in the conference, which is actually last because Vandy doesn't have a softball team. Their schedule is kind of strange, and the games against us will be only their second conference series of the season.

I have to say I'm becoming a believer in this team. Still leaving too many on base. But the bright side of that is we're getting on base, which hasn't been the case the last few years.

Was there this weekend. First time since 2021 Bama had a series win against Arkansas. In game two the freshman pitchers got a lesson. Great series win for Bama. Much luck next weekend at COMO. Ambrey has got to get in the day to day lineup. She came off the bench cold and extended the lead during the bottom of the 6th. RTR.

Why not give her a shot at third? She played shortstop in high school.
