Geoff Ketchum at OrangeBloods says that Greg Davis is out. He's also tweeted that he was told that all of this would end up being pretty expensive. Checkbook is open.

Mack Brown has been shopping in this neck of the woods before, and came back with exactly who he wanted--the hottest coordinator going.

Yeah, the OC for Texas has been on the hot seat (from the fans perspectives) for years, even during their 2005 BCS title run.

Random name I heard, Chad Morris ... the man who replace Malzahn at Tulsa.

My supervisor is tied in at UTA and said the same thing yesterday, that they wanted our guy
 
Yeah the torch and pitchfork crowd has been out for Davis for a while now. This year's debacle made his ouster a certainty.

Yeah, what about Applewhite? I thought he was the second coming.

Wood when you say "our guy" are talking about Malzahn or McElwain? I don't know if McElwain would want it, since he may be in line for head coaching jobs. I have to wonder if Malzahn wouldn't hold out for a head job, unless he knows something is going down on the plains.
 
It'll be interesting to see which direction they move with this hire. Mack Brown and Texas have been pretty much exclusively devoted to the conventional passing spread offense since about 2004, and their offense had pass-heavy leanings for several years prior to that. With the exception of the 2005 team that generated tons of rushing yardage courtesy of Vince Young's scrambling, Texas has been a sold-out, air-it-out passing offense for the better part of the last decade. There was a lot of talk in the off-season about gravitating more towards the running game, but I'm not sure if it ever materialized this season. But given the utterly poor play they got from the QB position this season (I think Gilbert set a single-season school record for interceptions), they might actually be serious about installing a more conventional rushing attack this time around.

If that's the case, they'll shy away from these spread gurus (Malzahn, etc.) and probably import somebody from the NFL, IMO. This hire will be very telling regarding what Mack intends to do with his offense. I think if he wanted to stick with the pass-heavy spread look he'd have to strongly consider promoting Major, and it doesn't look like that's on the table.
 
I just heard on the radio here in San Antonio, that Muschamp likes Major Applewhite and is pushing for him to be the OC. No link, just heard on the radio.
 
I figured Muschamp would have to give his approval. That was one thing Jimbo Fisher didn't get to do.
I think Major went back to UT knowing Greg Davis would be gone when Mack retired, if not sooner. Obviously it was sooner. I don't expect Mack around too much longer. This may be his last year also.
