Stiffarmtrophy.com projects Ingram to win in a close one (updated 12/12, 9am)

Something tells me that Ingram is going to get "Woodsoned."

Unfortunately, I've been getting more and more excited with each passing day, checking stiffarmtrophy.com multiple times throughout the day. I'm a little worried that I've set myself up for a major disappointment. :(

Look at it this way, if Ingram is snubbed again after the awards show last night, the entire team will be very upset and have something to prove on 1/7.

I still think he wins this thing...

I was thinking about the map they showed last night on ESPN for the Doak Walker Award and while MI got the SE, Gearhart got the west and midwest. I am concerned that the voting for Ingram/Tebow and McCoy/Suh will be diluted because they are in the same conferences while Gearhart is the only one from the Pac X.

Hopefully, I am over-analyzing this and MI will get the Heisman. He certainly went against much tougher defenses than the Pac X can offer and plus he shared RB duties with TR and RU. He also had near 400 receiving yards and averaged over 6 yards a carry. Gearhart ran 371 times for his 1700+ yards which is <5 yards per carry against lesser defenses.

Re: UPDATE: Stiff Arm Trophy; Proj WINNER is Mark Ingram!

Too many predictions that it will be Ingram for me to believe it will happen. I mean, he just lost out to Gerhardt for the Doak Walker. Seems that the same biases that led to this will also prevent Ingram from winning the Heisman as well. But I sure hope I am wrong.

Re: UPDATE: Stiff Arm Trophy; Proj WINNER is Mark Ingram!

As more votes have come in, MIs lead has increased this week. The way the vote was split in the SW region, Nebraska's kicker may have had the most influence on the balloting by kicking the last KO out of bounds.:BigA:

Waaaay too close for comfort. Stiffarmtrophy.com even thinks Ingram may come in third with respect to 1st place votes. It would seem kind of weird to win even though two other candidates received more 1st place votes. It's going to be a long day.

Shaun Alexander won the Doak Walker the year that Ron Dayne won the Heisman.

Almost all of the votes for the other awards were cast well before our game with Florida, which is why McCoy and Gerhart did so well.

Most of the other awards' votes were in before the conference championship games. Also, the Heisman voting system is unique. Each region of the country gets the same number of votes, regardless of how many people live in them. The alleged "regional" bias actually helps players from the south, southwest and midwest, because flyover country gets the same number of votes as the west coast and upper Atlantic. Also, the Heisman ballot has three blank spaces on it. There are no semi-finalist or finalist elimination rounds.

Of all the individual awards, it is probably the one with the best one at mitigating bias. You have to have broad support from almost all of the regions to win.

if mccoy wins it over ingram, i think it will provide extra motivation for our defense to go out there and destroy mccoy.

Re: UPDATE: Stiff Arm Trophy; Proj WINNER is Mark Ingram!

Just saw this myself. Regardless of any perceived bias, the prediction record of this site is pretty impressive. It will be a long day, but it sure looks like Mark will emerge as the winner.

By the way, I know the presentation show starts at 8 pm Eastern, but how long is the show? Is it 50 minutes of build up before the winner is announced? I've never watched it before.
