AMERICA NEEDS A MASS MOVEMENT—NOW
Without one, America may sink into autocracy for decades.

That is a very good article that everyone, regardless of their political views, should read till the end.
Very good ideas at the end about combining Populist and Progressive ideas:

----
The Progressives and Populists of that era also intuited something that psychological research would validate decades later: If people are to thrive, and to take productive risks, they need secure foundations from which to operate. Populists are good at thinking about how to build a secure container—a stable family, safe neighborhoods, strong national borders, shared moral values. Progressives are good at using government to widen opportunity—expanding educational opportunities, using industrial policy to invest in areas left behind, building housing so that people can move from one place to another. Both populists and progressives have an interest in reforming the institutions that Americans have lost faith in—universities, Congress, corporations, the meritocracy, the Silicon Valley technocracy.

Is ICE above the law???

Imagine that. A drunk driver insulting the officer that is arresting him. I would like to be offended but this is so common it almost seems a rite of passage for alcoholics.

Take this FWIW........a year or so ago while riding my e-bike on the beach I ran into a very good friend of mine and his wife. He had driven their MB Sprinter van to the beach to do some SUP surfing.

Of course I stopped to say hi and for some reason she took the conversation in the direction of stating she thinks e-bikes should be banned from the beach.

Keep in mind - driving cars on the beach is permitted here and has been since I moved here in 1970.

Like me they are both from this area, she graduated a year behind me in high school. He is from Daytona but ended up moving here not long after graduating form college (UF same time I was there).

But they are both liberals and he actually posts political stuff on FB, unlike me and most of my conservative friends.

Which doesn't really bother me - just adding some context.

But I hear the left saying all this stuff about fascist and democracy yet time after time from my perspective they are the ones continually telling me what I should be allowed to do or in most cases what not to do.

And I'm the conservative fascist.....

Everyone who continues to brush off what Trump is doing does not understand how unprecedented and dangerous his actions are. He is eroding the very principles this nation was founded upon.

His bid to pay the military, while we all want to see them paid, the way he is doing it is unconstitutional. Most will ignore it because "who doesn't want to pay the military?"

Just because the result is noble doesn't mean the process used to get there is right.

This is the transcript of the end of the video:
And what Trump has done by saying, "Oh, I'm just going to take money from over here to use to pay the troops is he is undermining the fundamental concept that is embodied in the constitution, which is that only Congress, only the legislative branch can make appropriations and decide how our tax dollars are spent. Only Congress that is in the Constitution. And crucially, it's only the House of Representatives that can discuss and pass any bill that any any measure that is going to raise taxes that you have to start appropriations measures in the House of Representatives. Now, there's some workarounds to that, but that's in the Constitution.

And the reason for that goes back to that very same principle that the government cannot spend our money without our say. and our say is represented by those people who sit in the House of Representatives and in the Senate and make up the Congress. And the executive branch only has the power to make sure that those laws are faithfully executed. That's in the Constitution.

So for Trump to say, I'm paying the troops. This is a great thing that I found money completely negates the entire idea that we get to decide how our money is spent. And once you have done that, what do you need a Congress for? And in fact, you're seeing that right now with a story coming out that came out this afternoon in CNN where representatives in Congress from Republican districts, Republican members of Congress are saying, "Hey, they're slashing programs." And I'm I'm learning about it in press releases.

This is a major major step toward the consolidation of an authoritarian power. And it's one of those things that I feel like people maybe didn't look at because it was in a was a a little statement on the White House um uh website and it just didn't get the attention it needed to get because of course yes we want the troops paid but we want the troops paid by Congress being in session and passing a law that says let's pay the the members of the military.

We don't want to say yes, we're so desperate to pay the military that we're okay with having a dictator simply take money that Congress said, "Hey, we're putting together some money because we care about this issue." And having a president say, "No, I don't really care about that, so I'm going to use this money to pay the troops." That divorces the use of our tax dollars from our representatives. And it is an unbelievably huge

Why bikes/e-bikes are not allowed on the beach if cars are allowed there?
