Terry Grant Weight?

Re: Terry Grant question

What we really need to do is add a consistent complement in addition to TG. He is what he is: a solid scatback with explosive play ability.

Re: Terry Grant question

Lots of ways to look at this....

How much weight can TG add and still keep his speed?

I don't think his frame is big enough to add much more.

Just because he's not an every down back, do we need him to be?

Every offense needs that player to make plays in open space. As long as we have someone step up to be the every down back, TG can be the change of pace back.

Yep...need some thunder to go with his lightening.

Re: Terry Grant question

TG may develop his body further as he matures in college, but he will never be a bruiser. He can still be very effective. We don't need him to crash the middle. We need to get him the ball in space, which can be done in our offense.

terry grant needs to run up the middle. he will get stronger. if he is used as a specialty back. the defense will expect a certain set of plays when he is in and ignore the inside run. they need to get grant and coffee on the field at the same time. and block somebody dad gummit ! lets play ball tonight! roll tide!

Hey,I hate to bring it up,but appears memory is very short for many posters. Shaud Williams was about the same size as T Grant, but not near as fast and is in the NFL now!TG will be fine, and yes he isn't a inside bruiser but could get the type of carries R Upchurch got tonight.:)

Injured, as he has been for some time...

Sorry - I just wasn't sure. I hadn't heard his name listed on the "still injured" reports from practice so assumed we would see him at least for a little bit.

Is this still the thigh bruise he suffered against Auburn?

Gee..... are any of you old enough to remember another little shifty back who played back in the late eighties.................

His name was Barry Sanders..... He is one back who the word "bruiser" was never attached too.

I think it has more to do with how TG runs than his physical size. He doesn't run hard. He gets knocked off his feet and tackled very easy. There have been a lot of backs his size that have had very good success at big programs but the difference was their running styles. Warrick Dunn comes to mind and even Shaud Williams. Smaller backs but just had a physical slashing running style.

Up to this point TG (even in his "good games") doesn't appear to have that aggressive running style. Arm sweeps and initial contact seem to take him down.

My impression was the opposite but ... I think we would have had a better running game last nite w/him in there some of the time. Hope he fully recovers over the off season.

It would have been interesting to see. It seemed like we tried to run a lot between the tackles rather than sweeping outside runs, which may have been because that's more Coffee/Upchurch's running style... I don't think Colorado's D could have caught TG if he turned the corner past big Andre. At any rate, I thought Coffee and Upchurch both ran hard last night and my hat is off to them. :BigA:

terry grant, is an exceptional rb. he had to take on more than most scat backs takeon, with the injuries, and lack of depth. terry is a true freshman, and will grow some with weight training, not much though. he is a fine slasher, and when our offensive line hopefully is upgraded, he will be a big factor. i found williams, to be larger in stature than terry, and not as fast. terry is similar to steve slaton of west va. maryland had him signed on took away his scholarship, because they like the bigger backs. the rest is history.

They ran very hard there just were not many holes after the first series or so.
