Game Thread: Texas A&M @ UGA (Fighting Bowl Cuts)

The truth of it is that those 91 consecutive wins against unranked opponents should be remarkable because teams with as much talent and quality coaching as us can't seem to manage avoid choking on a cupcake once every so often. Ohio State really hurt themselves several times over the last few years by losing to team that have no business giving them a game. Georgia plainly should never have lost to South Carolina. You can't even argue that the Gamecocks had better coaching on their sideline either. Oregon dashed their chances at their 2nd CFP berth in program history by getting torched by 5-5 team with a true freshman quarterback. We won a national title because the best football team in Oklahoma State history couldn't deal with a mediocre Iowa State team on a Friday night.

Every time Alabama loses a big game, you read in the media or on message boards that Saban is overrated. Losing to top-end teams happen on occasion. They have great players and coaches too. Never losing to unranked teams is where I think you see the difference between Saban and others. Guys with 2 or 3 rings like Meyer and Swinney can't seem to navigate their team around landmines as well as our guy. And this is exactly why we've made the CFP once without winning the division and will likely make it again with a win this upcoming Saturday. We provide no perception of inadequacy. When we're judged to be significantly better than a team, we always win. The only teams that can hang around with us are the cream of the crop. When you never lose to 5-5 teams, it is hard to argue against your case as one of the top four teams.

This, IMO, sums up the Alabama's fan base right now - 91 wins in a row over unranked opponents. Sounds like something that would make a fan base joyous. In this case, it is "expected" and viewed as no accomplishment. So, as you said, Alabama fans find joy only in a few wins each year, and any year that ends in less than a championship is a disappointment.

It is a glorious place to be, but can be so much more if you learn to enjoy the 50 point beat downs over lesser opponents. Soon enough you will no longer be able to take those games for granted. Before we know it, every game will be something to worry about again.

Enjoy this moment. Few fans ever experience something as beautiful as this dynasty.

I, for one, enjoy every 50 point beat down we have. I remember the dark days. I remember 2000-2006. I was in middle school and high school and remember the endless trash talk vividly. I certainly won’t be voting for Tommy Tubberville for senate. [emoji6]
