Burton Burns expected to leave Alabama for NFL job

Nick Saban is about to lose one of the final remaining members of his original Alabama staff.

I met him on a plane a few years back...a really classy man. Glad he is getting this chance...he should have been a head coach years ago.

Wasn't he moved to an off the field position due to health? It seems he could have gone back to the RB's at Alabama.

It is easier to be a position coach in the NFL than in college where you will spend a ton of time of the road recruiting.

My guess is that his health is up to the coaching but not the recruiting travel.

I was under the impression that he was on a glide path to full retirement in the very near future. I guess not.

We haven’t had a consistently better position group since Saban got here. I know those guys were all incredibly talented when they arrived, but his work over the years has been incredible. I’ve heard several backs say what an incredible off the field mentor he has been.

I think he wanted to get his retirement check settled... and he's been itching to get on the field the last two years.... Burns move to the off the field, I don't think it was mutual agreement between SAban and Burns...

Big loss for us and win for him. I'm happy he'll be happy doing what he loves. He was meant for the sideline and interaction with young men influencing their lives on and off the field NOT in an administrative role. We're losing a legend plus one of the NICEST human beings you will ever meet.

Great coach and evaluator of talent! I believe I recall that he spotted the potential in Joshua Jacobs after watching film, then watching JJ in person at a HS basketball game...
