Heck yeah it's important. He started this argument 1986 when we were room mates in the Marine Corp and I plan to win it. BTW we were way less civil back then. We havn't missed a game since 1991 season. He will be meeting me in Ttown on Friday and will be tailgating on the quad on Saturday. Anybody that wants to rough him up just let me know and I'll lure him to your tailgate.
Then copy post 12 and send it to him . Expect *crickets* in response :D

I've heard this stuff quite a bit recently, especially from Tennessee fans that live near me. They primarily cite the first few championships that they identify as being awarded retroactively and those that were awarded before bowl games that we happened to lose.

I try to explain that the awarding of championships in college football is very unique and an inexact science, particularly since there isn't a recognized playoff to conclude the season. But to judge our championships that were awarded during a different time by the same standards that are currently in place is inaccurate. I agree that our claim of the 1941 championship, objectively, is a little iffy. In addition, I see where the idea of recognizing championships that may have been awarded a few years after the season concluded could be criticized, but Alabama certainly isn't alone in staking claim to championships in the early years of the sport.

In my case, I find it very laughable that it is Tennessee fans that I get the most grief from on this topic. By most accounts, Tennessee is credited with two championships. Yet, if you've seen anything at Neyland Stadium lately, they list six championships. I'm not really sure how we are the only offenders in their eyes.

This sounds too much like an Auburn thread. This topic and their constant chant of Bama cheats. Spare us. (IGNORE THEM)
We've won a bunch in years past, and we'll win in the future.

If I were a barner, I'd consider national championships 'mythical', too.

I know one way to end this argument once and for all. Unfortunately, my method would start a 13 national championship argument.

He does it to rib me. He knows the truth deep down. It will be a fresh topic the minute he buys a drink at the game and the cup list the 12 NC's. He's a really good friend and not easily ignored.

Not if the "second season" only includes a few teams. Only the mighty. A full on, 16 team playoff would be a mistake. I like the 8 Super Conferences idea...
But I don't think , especially in our present loser-ish society which seems to embrace rewarding failure , it would ever stop at any reasonable # once it started . I mean wouldn't we eventually have to include DII and DII champions along with the womens prison champions in order to secure ... "fairness" . LOL . Yes , I'm obviously being extreme but so are my feelings about a playoff of ANY sort :(

Like I said, I respect that.

LOL . I usually just respond with a statement along the line of Bama being ripped out of more NC's than their program has so much as even sniffed . If they want more , I break out the the ol' copy & paste as I do here 5-6 times a year ....

I believe 8 of the 12 to be 100% indisputable .....
25 , 30 , 34 , 61 , 64 , 78 , 79 , 92

(9) 1926 isn't really debatable - Played Stanford in the Rose Bowl to a tie . The voting organizations of that era thought we were the best .
(10) 1965 might be somewhat debatable - Seems legitimate . Other teams were crowned by a couple of polls . At the very least , it was shared .

1941 is pretty bogus .
1973 is bitter to settle on but , we lost to the dome on the field of play .

Of those 12 titles , there are 10 solid NC's .

When we were denied ........
(11) 1936 - Only undefeated team . Anti-Southern bias ?
(12) 1945 - Undefeated , won the Rose bowl - THE NC GAME - in a blowout . We were at war and Army was given a fraudulent gift .
(13) 1966 Politics of the day .

When we have a right to complain ........
1975 - Rather legitimate claim . Eye of the beholder ? 14 ?
1977 - Equal record with an incredibly crushing Sugar Bowl win ! 15 ?

Other years when some polls or outlets felt Bama was worthy but , really were not .... 37-50-62-63-74-80-94

JOMHO but , 12 still shorts Bama 1 to 3 NC's .

No schools other than N.D. , SoCal & Oklahoma have any right to discuss NC's at this level . The thoughts , questions , doubts and opinions expressed from fans of any other schools have ZERO credibility . They just fail to warrant a seat at the same table . What should we do ? Feel bad and apologize or something ?

Great post LCN!!!

I've always seen eye to eye and agreed with you 100% and this is just another example of why I do. Nobody on this board thinks the way I do more than you and I love reading your posts with proof to back it up.

This is why the UA CTIDE claims 12 and rightfully so and like you said no
bubba whiny-tears,boogs,jort frogs, stupid tigger fans have a right to even sniff an opinion on this matter with their ignorance of cf history and wanting to be equal with our tradition and our rightful place at the top. If they have a problem with it's just too bad. Boo hoo cry us a ucheat cesspool river.
