The 2024 Presidential Election

After watching this twice, this is more than mild cognitive impairment. This is at least moderately advanced dementia. No wonder his handlers are trying to keep him off the debate stage. When the presidential debates begin, after idiots vote for him in the primaries, he must debate, or face the onslaught by media and the public that he can't keep his thoughts organized enough do to it. Biden will make mincemeat of him because he can, contrary to propaganda, think. This speech is a roadmap to the way his mind works, or doesn't work, and it's scary. I'm hoping this is the end of a nightmare for the fate of democracy in this country. Dictator for a day, indeed...

I saw an interview with Elise Stefanik, they were asking her about Trump mixing up Pelosi with Halley in his speech.
Stefanik refused to give any ground, everything Trump said was perfectly fine…

It‘s almost like she was mocking us, defending what even she knew was indefensible.

She is completely trustworthy and her interpretation of others' speech can be believed 100% because she is honest.

they get off on gaslighting folks

LOL! Now it's "Don Demento." He now has a monkey on his back for the rest of the campaign. He'll have to defend his mental acuity from now on - and then, he has to debate Biden, can't dodge it anymore...
I don’t think Biden will debate him. Whether Trump is capable or not he will want to, maybe to his detriment. I could see Biden saying he’s not debating a criminal insurrectionist, he has a point, and that he won’t stand on the stage with a man that tries to steal elections.

I think you're dead wrong. I think Biden will jump at the chance, just as he did last time, when the Trumpers thought he must be taking PE drugs. If anyone tries to dodge a debate, it will be Trump, because his handlers are afraid to chance it...

The fact that we're discussing which octogenarian is less likely to want to avoid a debate to dodge mental decline claims is depressing;

Neither of these are the best options for a great country...
"we're" not discussing that idea. this is being "discussed" because of the absurd idea floated upthread that it's really biden who will be afraid to/won't debate trump.

like so often, it's sad projection

Yeah, no one is talking about the fact that the two choices voters are going to have are octogenarians, just a couple of us here on TF...

If you really think even one of these is the best option for leading the US forward then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree - though it helps me better understand why we're where we are.

I am not convinced that the man (Trump) even has the capacity to debate. The last couple of election cycles, his demeanor on stage has always been to rail and rail, talk over people, not stick to the topic, and boast about how great he thinks he is. And given his signs of senility, it will only be worst this time around.

I'm not surprised this is where we are just sad about it. We get the government we deserve and this country is going to get it.

I don't think that is necessarily senility I think that is just an egomaniac at work.

I don't for one second think Biden is "afraid" to debate Trump.

However, I think it's in his better interest to NOT debate Trump. This is not the traditional case of two non-incumbents (Bush-Dukakis) or an incumbent sliding in the polls (Ford, Carter, Bush 41). If I'm Biden, I don't give him the chance to rage like a toddler who lost his rattle.

Just say, "the debate's already been held. Compare my four years to his four years. He ran up trillions in debt, killed a million people with a pandemic he couldn't manage, and we had 14% unemployment for the first time since the Depression.

I didn't. Choose wisely."

I hope this can be read, from Nadim. I don't think, no I know, that the general population does not know what hinges on this election. It's literally the security of the Western world...

I had to sign into Substack to read this, so I'm just going to go ahead and post the article. IMO, it is that important.

Putin signed an order insinuating the sale of Alaska to the United States in 1867 was illegitimate.

This #$&@*! is trolling the West, and our leaders shake in their boots in response.

This lovely appeared in the last seventy-two hours. I remember writing that the Tsar wanted Alaska. It was apparent when Vladimir Putin started talking about Russian lands. Now it’s transparent:

“Russia claims Alaska and vast swathes of Asia under Vladimir Putin’s new order”: The West was seriously spooked by the president’s decision to seek Russian assets, seeing it as a territorial claim.
“The new order affects all of Moscow’s historic holdings on three continents, including former colonies of the Russian Empire in the United States. The document provides means to search, register and provide legal protection for Russian property abroad, including land and buildings in the territories of the former Russian Empire and the USSR. Among the regions affected by the new decree is Alaska, which was sold to the United States in 1867 and where communities with close ties to Russia still live. Parts of Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and large parts of Asia were also once part of the empire. The Institute for the Study of War suggested that Moscow could use the president’s new executive order to destabilize its neighbors.”
Now I am shocked Putin is not claiming the west coast to the Russian River in Sonoma County. That would give him multiple deep water warm ports, including Victoria and Naval base Kitsap, a merging of both Bremerton and Bangor. Did I mention the port of Seattle?

So this would add to the bases the Russian navy could enjoy. But they are sticking to Alaska, claiming some Russian speakers want to return to the Rodina. This is precisely what they said about the Donbas as they took place in 2014, and Crimea.

So what about Central Asia? These are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. And yes, their propaganda is starting to talk of these places as nonexistent fictional countries, like they did with Ukraine.
