The Biggest BAMA-AUBIE Matchup That Hasn't Been Discussed

The thing that concerns me is what I guess I'll call 'Recognition-Reaction Time.'

My impression of that Auburn offense is that if you don't catch on quick to what is happening, you can get burned for big yardage before you even turn around good. Such as some kind of misdirection play, where you think Newton is going up the right side, and suddenly you've got Dyer coming around left end.

Have you ever had an automobile that, when you pressed on the gas pedal, there was a second or two before the engine actually moved the vehicle?

I felt like there was no interval at all last year between recognition and reaction. I hate to run this in the ground, but with Ro, it was a matter of split-seconds. With the defense this year, they all react, but there is sometimes a gap between the play developing and the reaction.

I also hate to run another subject in the ground, but old dudes like me (when we were younger) were spoiled in the early sixties by the emphasis of Paul W. Bryant upon quickness. It permeated through the locked fences of his practices out into Bobby Bowden's practices at Samford, and also into the practices of high school coaches who were followers of Alabama.

I haven't seen this much since those days, but maybe I haven't gotten around enough -- but I am talking about quickness drills. Such as the hands on knees, in football-position, quickly hands to helmet, then quickly back down to the knees. I saw that at Walter Wellborn High School in 1958.

Or, there was the drill at Bama in 1962, a quickness version of the Bull in the Ring, where the man in the center of the ring, with feet pumping, rotates quickly - he has to - to meet the alternating players from the ring around him, who each approach him and extend a quick forearm. I saw it in the warmups against Georgia at Legion Field.

This Auburn offense will score quickly, unless the Alabama defense is quick enough to recognize and react. Newton is such a threat that he requires attention, to say the least. But with your eye on him, they can quickly be gone with one of the other threats. Even his pass-run option is such an either-or threat that quickness is going to matter on defense.

I don't like to be negative. I'm just saying, if they get the upper hand, and outquick us, resulting in a two or three touchdown lead . . . . well, why complete the sentence?

What I am hoping for is maybe three interceptions. We get three or four interceptions, we could win this football game.

This is from today's practice. We will be ready.

"We have had a pretty good week so far," head coach Nick Saban said. "The players have had a good intensity and effort in what we are trying to get accomplished in practice. It has been different from a schedule standpoint but the practices have been spirited."

In my opinion... Bama can whip the hind parts of those boys.. and I think we just might.. But I also know that if AU get's it going.. they're good enough to embarrass us. I just hope our guys play fast, hard, intense and make AU know they are in a dang FIGHT. If they do that.. I like our chances.
One more note.. I think we need Julio to have a huge day.. If he gets hot, the rest of the offense will follow suit. How do we make that happen? Well.. that's for Coach and Coach Mac to determine.

Roll Tide guys.. here's to punchin' them in the mouth.

finally.. I'll take the class and intensity of Coach any day over the joke of a leader that celebrates piling points on UGA while his players are acting like complete thugs.

It'd be awesome if Saban could suit up and play, or somehow possess all of our players Professor-X-style. But the matchup that matters the most here is Auburn's players vs. Bama's players. Right now Auburn's players are playing better.

And the most we can hope for in terms of energy is to somehow match Auburn's motivation. They only play one game a season that matters, they are going to be ridiculously motivated. They could potentially beat us and win the SECCG and win the BCSNCG, outdoing us, essentially beating us three times in one season. That's like cocaine to them. And it all starts with us. Sorry but Auburn will play the game of their lives on Friday...no doubt about it.

Not saying we won't win. But it's gonna take everything and the kitchen sink.

For all of the matchups discussed and all of the angles dissected, Bama will win simply because I want them to.:) How is that for optimisim? RTR

..oh ye of little faith....lol

Ok....let's forget coaching, players, etc.. and simply look at facts based on actual performance.

On the road this season Bama has been average both offensively and defensively. We've lost two games.

At home however we've been a completely different team and have not even been seriously challenged.

100,000 plus fans cheering like crazy for you does indeed make a difference.

Now, look at Auburn.

At home they've won nail biter games over Clemson, South Carolina, LSU, and to some degree, Georgia.

In my feeble mind I believe that had those games been played on the road they would have lost them all, because their road performance has been meek at best.

They beat Miss. State by three when State dropped a wide open pass in the last minute.

They kicked a field goal on the final play of the game to beat Kentucky by three.

And they beat Ole Miss by 20. Looks impressive, but who hasn't beaten Ole Miss??

So based simply on results it looks to me that Auburn's home field advantage has helped them immensely, and when they haven't had that advantage they've looked pretty average.

Now they come into a stadium to face the most talented team they've played the entire season, the best coached team they've faced the entire season, and a crowd that is nearly twice as large and loud as any they've faced this entire season.

They also are facing a team and program that has won their last 20 home games in a row.

So to me, if I was in Vegas, this is a no brainer. And that's not based on emotions, that's based on actual performance by Auburn on the road versus actual performance by Bama at home.

I've read, scrutinized, and contributed to all the "match up" threads, Cam Newton threads, our weakness threads, their weakness threads, etc.

The one thread topic that I'm amazed that I haven't seen is this one...

"Saban versus Chiznik"

I don't care how this year has gone to date for either team.

It no longer matters.

This is one game.

It's for the state championship.

I'll take Saban.

Bama wins this game in a rout. It won't be close.

48-20 BAMA. There's the "sip" prediction.

I know, I'm nuts.

I thought Cal would keep it close against Oregon as well. And look how dumb that turned out.

Just watch...and enjoy...

I'm not gonna predict a score but I do think we will win. I think the crowd will play a huge role in this as well. If the crowd gets going and the team gets going I think $cam gets rattled a little. Also, I think CNS will be smart enough to put different spies on $cam unlike UGA who kept the same guy on him all game long.
