The Gary Johnson thread

By not allowing Johnson and Weld to debate all they did was cement my decision to vote for Johnson/Weld. If they had been allowed to debate my mind could have possibly been persuaded towards Trump or Clinton, but now we will never know.

Johnson/Weld it is!!!

What I've learned from watching Ross Perot and other third party candidates is that unfortunately your vote will be symbolic only.

What I've learned from voting both major parties is that they will openly betray my vote anyway.

exactly

the problem is that people get too emotionally tied up in "winning" or the perception that they've won when the person they choose gets elected and then promptly forget in the next election cycle that the candidate betrayed them for most of their time in office

I really don't buy this perspective. Everyone can find reasons to feel betrayed. The reality is that no candidate can make everyone "happy". I'll choose the candidate who maximizes my "happiness" because no candidate will make every decision as I would.

Boo-hiss. Johnson/Weld do not qualify for the debates and will not have the opportunity to present a better alternative to the hideous other choices during the upcoming debates. The bipartisan commission succeeds in keeping it a 2 party affair and eliminating a threat to their dominance.

Very disappointing. I wanted to hear their perspective in that arena. I'm having a really difficult time lately selling myself on voting for Johnson. I don't like how he's come off in some of his interviews and some of the positions he has taken. So, I was looking forward to seeing him contrasted against the two buffoons.

I think you would have seen 3 buffoons.

I get that they won't do everything I voted for them to do, but when time after time after time they do the opposite of their supposed core platform/values THAT leaves me feeling betrayed.

Then there's the fact that my whole perspective on a number of issues has changed drastically anyway and so not only do I no longer believe them, I also don't believe in the snake oil they're selling.

Those in the 2 parties have a very narrow lens through which they shape their policy. Never would they consider wholesale criminal justice reform, entitlement reform, tax reform, immigration reform, or anything else that might actually help solve a number of the problems we face or remove obstacles to freedom and production. They just dangle some cake or maybe a carrot or a dollar bill. They promise to punish the rich or punish the drug users or the illegal immigrant whomever else they can vilify and blame for the problems (which is to cover up the fact they are the ones who are to blame).

Gary Johnson is far from the perfect candidate. He's made several gaffes and with all the money they've brought in recently the first place to spend it is on a personal assistant or two that watch the news and brief him religiously on anything of importance. He's been caught on his heels/off balance and that will make him look like a buffoon whether he is or not.

Even with his faults he at least has character, which is more than I can say for the other clowns.

If you cast a vote for someone who has almost no chance of winning, wouldn't you have missed the chance to try to discern which of the 2 front runners might have come closer to accomplishing your objectives? I respect your right to your vote and your opinion, I just don't get it. The lack of compromise of our ideologies is the main problem we have. I don't think we are that far off from being able to accomplish something with anyone as president. We just need to roll up our sleeves and work for a middle of the road solution.

You know the definition of insanity, don't you?

If you live in a solid red or blue state it wont really matter that much.

No president is going to accomplish much unless they can win the house. And even if their party does win the house, there is little to no incentive for congress people to actually do any governing as they are self incentivized to do as little as possible while retaining as much potential for reelection as they possibly can. They do this by convincing their base that they are upholding the "core values" with commercials showing how often they voted to repeal the ACA, or how many bills to close planned parenthood clinics they sponsored, or police department investigations they led. When politicians get more political cred for the things they vote against instead of the things they actually manage to do, the system has more issues than an election for president can possibly solve.

How do you know gary johnson has character. For all we know he is a television character as much as Trump and Clinton are and has just fooled some into thinking he is "real".

For one he doesn't have an R or a D next to his name which means he's not as much of a sellout which at the very least shows some character.
