He appears to be in over his head. Naive, incompetent and/or inexperienced and arrogant - a deadly combo. He extends his hand to Ahmadinejad and he spits in his face (not much said by the MSM about this folly), then he angers the EU by proposing a form of protectionism (again no criticism of this man who would improve the US's standing in the world). The pity is that events and conditions not of his doing and beyond his control (though his remedies will exacerbate the problems) will likely contribute to extreme contempt. On a personal level, I feel sorry for him. As for the country, it was in great trouble before he arrived, it is in far more trouble now.

The Impending Obama Meltdown [Victor Davis Hanson]

Some of us have been warning that it was not healthy for the U.S. media to have deified rather than questioned Obama, especially given that they tore apart Bush, ridiculed Palin, and caricatured Hillary. And now we can see the results of their two years of advocacy rather than scrutiny.

We are quite literally after two weeks teetering on an Obama implosion—and with no Dick Morris to bail him out—brought on by messianic delusions of grandeur, hubris, and a strange naivete that soaring rhetoric and a multiracial profile can add requisite cover to good old-fashioned Chicago politicking.

First, there were the sermons on ethics, belied by the appointments of tax dodgers, crass lobbyists, and wheeler-dealers like Richardson—with the relish of the Blago tapes still to come. (And why does Richardson/Daschle go, but not Geithner?).
Second, was the "stimulus" (the euphemism for "borrow/print money") that was simply a way to go into debt for a generation to shower Democratic constituencies with cash.
Then third, there were the inflated lectures on historic foreign policy to be made by the clumsy political novice who trashed his own country and his predecessor in the most ungracious manner overseas to a censored Saudi-run press organ (e.g., Bush is dictatorial, the Saudi king is courageous; Obama can mend bridges that America broke to aggrieved Muslims—apparently Tehran hostages, Rushdie, serial attacks in the 1990s, 9/11, Madrid, London never apparently occurred; and neither did feeding Somalis, saving Kuwait, protesting Chechnya, Bosnia/Kosovo, billions to Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinians, help in two Afghan wars, and on and on).

Fourth, there was the campaign rhetoric of Bush shredding the Constitution—FISA, Guantánamo, the Patriot Act, Iraq, renditions, etc.—followed by "all that for now stays the same" inasmuch as we haven't ben hit in over seven years and can't risk another attack.
Fifth, Gibbs as press secretary is a Scott McClellan nightmare that won't go away, given his long McClellan-like relationship with Obama (McClellan should have been fired on day hour one on the job). Blaming Fox News for Obama's calamities is McClellan to the core and doesn't work. He already reminds me of Reverend Wright's undoing at the National Press Club—and he will get worse.
Six, Biden is being Biden. Already, he's ridiculed the chief justice, trashed the former VP, bragged on himself ad nauseam in Bidenesque weird ways, and it's only been two weeks.
And the result of all this?

At home, Obama is becoming laughable and laying the groundwork for the greatest conservative populist reaction since the Reagan Revolution.
Abroad, some really creepy people are lining up to test Obama's world view of "Bush did it/but I am the world": The North Koreans are readying their missiles; the Iranians are calling us passive, bragging on nukes and satellites; Russia is declaring missile defense is over and the Euros in real need of iffy Russian gas; Pakistanis say no more drone attacks (and then our friends the Indians say "shut up" about Kashmir and the Euros order no more "buy American").

This is quite serious. I can't recall a similarly disastrous start in a half-century (far worse than Bill Clinton's initial slips). Obama immediately must lower the hope-and-change rhetoric, ignore Reid/Pelosi, drop the therapy, and accept the tragic view that the world abroad is not misunderstood but quite dangerous. And he must listen on foreign policy to his National Security Advisor, Billary, and the Secretary of Defense. If he doesn't quit the messianic style and perpetual campaign mode, and begin humbly governing, then he will devolve into Carterism—angry that the once-fawning press betrayed him while we the people, due to our American malaise, are to blame.

I expected there to be some problems initially, but it really does look like Obama is totally lost in the maelstrom of DC Democrat clowns.

Of course, the Republicans will find a way to squander the opportunity to capitalize on what appears to be an impeding 4-year mess.

Politics as usual.

The guy's been in office no more than two weeks, and the right-wing is in such a tizzy that Kleenex and hand lotion are on permanent backorder.

Note to NR: The ghost of Bill Buckley left that bldg a long time ago. Sadly.

Tell you what Slab, it ain't just the right wing in a tizzy. I really, really want this guy to do a good job. Just as I want all sitting Prezs to do a good job. But if you aren't starting to think that at this point he is all style and no substance then you aren't paying attention. Personally, I think you are paying attention. Sadly, the unwashed masses aren't. Yet.

I gave Shrub about 2 years, and cut him some slack most of the way. It took me about 2 years to realize what a bad mistake I had made in voting for him in the first place.

I'm going to give The One more than two weeks to try to clean up the 8 years of domestic/foreign policy mess that nobody around here seems to want to take responsibility (they all voted LIBERTARIAN, remember? ) for.

So, basically, some his nominees had to withdraw, but it's a good thing Harriett Myers, Linda Chavez, and Bernie Kerick weren't around.

And, as a Wonkette pundit writes about this steaming pile...um, article: "Truly, it is embarrassing that the President and the majority party have had to negotiate with the minority party on a major bill, so as to produce the best bill possible. It’s almost as if this is exactly how our government should work!"

Like I said in a post earlier this week, it's pretty clear that the many of the p3ssers and moaners around here want to see America fail. Deny it all you want.

Why do you hate America? :)

I hear ya. I'm definitely giving the guy more than two weeks, but I'm becoming increasingly skeptical of him. I mean, his actions of the last two weeks have gone in stark contrast to his words over the last 2 1/2 years. Typical politician. And exactly what he said he wasn't.

Anyway, I'm not ....ing and moaning...just observing. I tell you what really irks me though. Flobama spends all this time and energy on Gitmo. And I'll be damned if he doesn't spend a second of time on the most pressing issue relating to Cuba--how to get me some damn cigars. Legally.

It's the fact that there have already been so many embarrassing little screw-ups, in such a short time, that is noteworthy. Watching the Democrats run Washington is like watching one of the web feeds of an intersection in a large Indian city where there's no traffic light.

I was worried that the domination by Dems in DC would lead to a massive national setback in which the gov't ham-fistedly makes decisions for individuals that the gov't needn't be making. But the way things are going, I think the Dems are going to have trouble getting anything done. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but we'll see.

Some of you love your party more than America. If the opposition is in office you spend all your efforts into tearing that opposition down rather than trying to help America succeed. Some really need to take a look at your values you don't love America you just love to hate.

Agreed, but his mistakes need to be pointed out. I actually see more that I like about him than I ever saw in GWB, but that doesn't mean that he will ever be a good president. He really needs to stop with the scare tactics that GWB employed for 7 years. We need another, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself," leader to bring us out of this mess...

So to criticize Obama's administration is to hate America. Got it.

No you misunderstand me. It's the constant tone some employ on the message board, not all, some. They are very easily picked out. The man, who I didn't vote for, has only been in office for two weeks and has a daunting task in front of him. I will at least give him time to form a cabinet and make some real blunders before ripping him a new one. I have been a Republican all my life till Bush destroyed my faith in the party.

Well I can relate Re Bush, but it's one thing to have hope for the US and another to insist that some politician be granted carte blanche, especially when you disagree with that politicians philosophies.
