Does anyone ever remember a visiting team getting a crucial call in the Barn? I don't and don't expectto see one. Something definitely smells in the barnyard.

I hate auburn almost as much as anybody and I sure wanted them to lose. Then again, I don't like Florida much either. It looked to me like a fumble. Sure, his arm was going forward, but it looked like he was trying to hold the ball rather than throw it and he lost the handle on it. It wasn't hit by an auburn player. Nevertheless, Florida gave the game away. They didn't play well enough in the 2nd half to beat anybody. I'm surprised some folks haven't been claiming that Mike Shula was calling the plays for them.
It doesn't matter if he was trying hold the ball. officials can't make calls based on what they deem as a player's intent. If we give them that power, we're in deep ka-ka.

From the 2006 NCAA football rules:
b. When a Team A player is holding the ball to pass it forward toward the neutral zone, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts the
forward pass. If a Team B player contacts the passer or ball after forward
movement begins and the ball leaves the passer’s hand, a forward pass
is ruled regardless of where the ball strikes the ground or a player (A.R.
2-19-2-I).
c. When in question, the ball is passed and not fumbled during an attempted
forward pass.
With that being so incredibly clear, how can officials MISS THE CALL? It amazes me how officials don't know the rules!

Nevertheless, the ball LEFT Leaks hands BEFORE the defender hit the ball...thus regardless of the rule it is still an INCOMPLETE PASS!

Take away too defensive TD's and one special teams TD and the Aub's lose and the offense STILL only gets 6 points!

Take away the non-fumble and the hook and ladder than doesn't have to be run (because UF is winning the game) and Auburn still loses the game 21 - 13 giving them the one legitimate fumble by the punter.

Anyway you look at it, Auburn still only put up 6 offensive points! This team is lucky and also beatable!

Who cares? Even if the play is ruled an incomplete pass, Florida was not guaranteed to make the field goal. Florida's kicker made exactly 1 kick all season. Sure it was a bad call, but the real reason Florida lost is a total lack of execution on offense and special teams during the 2nd half.

We all know that SEC refs are incompetent at best. That's why you have to execute. Florida's zero points in the 2nd half showed their lack of execution.

It doesn't even matter if the defender hit the ball before it left Leak's hand; the only question is whether or not his arm was moving forward. Period. If his arm is moving forward and a defender knocks the ball out of his hand, it's still an incomplete pass.

While I think we win with a correct call there I can't really argue that we deserved it. Once again we did not play a complete game and lack of concentration resulted in large swings of momentum and most of AU's points. While it is hard to root for them, as a FL fan I hope to see them in the SEC title game (realize that no one else here wants that and can ubnderstand why)

You just want them in a re-match, don't you? ;)

I think you guys could take them if you played them again...

Saw it today. Under the rule, it was an incomplete pass, not that I'm a big fan of that rule. I respect everyone's right to disagree, but in my book the zebras have given the Barn two games in the loveliest cow pasture.... Why we thought that putting an extra incompetent official in a replay booth was going to improve the quality of the officiating.... All it did was slow the games down.

The past few years AU has gotten its share of calls when playing at home that have had an impact on the outcome of the game, from the guy jumping to block the kick in the LSU game until now the phantom fumble.

The fumble (incomplete pass) was a reviewable call and should have been corrected in the booth. If the arm is going forward the rule says it's an incomplete pass. If you take it as more than just coincidence, then how many times can an AU O'lineman get away with holding, or pick plays or....etc...

P.S. I didn't really care who won the game. I just don't want to play the refs when we travel to the plains.

:BigA:
It should have been overturned by the replay official, but since that was Al "Aubie" Ford it is not surprising that it went the Aubies way.

Sorry folks, I guess I'm in the minority here. I believe it was obvious that Leak had decided not to pass the ball and was in the process of bringing the ball back in when he fumbled the ball. The Auburn player hit the ball and ,thusly, gave Auburn a good chance to pick it up and run.

I suppose we see it the way we wanted to based on who we wanted to win. I wanted Florida to lose so I chose to see it the way I've described.

To be very optimistic, Auburn's record is not an issue for us, If we run the table and Arky loses three SEC games........ we win the West.

My take is that by the rule it was an incomplete pass, not a fumble. But you've got to admit that that is the most ridiculous rule in the book. He didn't throw the ball, he fumbled it, just like Tom Brady fumbled it. So in that regard I'm glad it was called the way that it was. It's just a stupid, stupid rule. A fumble is a fumble. Change the rule to what it should be. /rant

Arm stopping, under the present rule, is immaterial, if it started forward - either in a pump fake or attempt to pass...
That's my point Earle. It's just my belief that if the ball never leaves the QB's hand it should be a fumble, not an attempted pass, otherwise known as an incomplete pass. Whatever, I'm not on any rules committee so my opinion matters none anyway.;)

I wasn't speaking to the "oughta" aspect. I was just saying that, under the present rule, it appeared to be an incomplete pass...

I've changed my mind on this today. In real time it appeared to be an incomplete pass but frame by frame it appears the ball is knocked out of Leak's hand before he commences the forward motion of the arm. The ball even begins to spin a different direction. I think the replay guy did a heck of a job getting this right.

Yeah, glad more people are realizing this. I have been against IR from the get go. This is the main reason right there. This season more than last year has shown that you need competent officiating. A knucklehead in a booth reviewing calls is still going to give knuckleheaded calls.
