Does anyone ever remember a visiting team getting a crucial call in the Barn? I don't and don't expectto see one. Something definitely smells in the barnyard.
It doesn't matter if he was trying hold the ball. officials can't make calls based on what they deem as a player's intent. If we give them that power, we're in deep ka-ka.I hate auburn almost as much as anybody and I sure wanted them to lose. Then again, I don't like Florida much either. It looked to me like a fumble. Sure, his arm was going forward, but it looked like he was trying to hold the ball rather than throw it and he lost the handle on it. It wasn't hit by an auburn player. Nevertheless, Florida gave the game away. They didn't play well enough in the 2nd half to beat anybody. I'm surprised some folks haven't been claiming that Mike Shula was calling the plays for them.
With that being so incredibly clear, how can officials MISS THE CALL? It amazes me how officials don't know the rules! From the 2006 NCAA football rules:
b. When a Team A player is holding the ball to pass it forward toward the neutral zone, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts the
forward pass. If a Team B player contacts the passer or ball after forward
movement begins and the ball leaves the passer’s hand, a forward pass
is ruled regardless of where the ball strikes the ground or a player (A.R.
2-19-2-I).
c. When in question, the ball is passed and not fumbled during an attempted
forward pass.
Ah, to be young and foolish again . . . :wink:It was easy to see that the correct call was incomplete pass...but thats how it goes I guess...maybe we can get some of that luck against the viles this weekend
It doesn't even matter if the defender hit the ball before it left Leak's hand; the only question is whether or not his arm was moving forward. Period. If his arm is moving forward and a defender knocks the ball out of his hand, it's still an incomplete pass.Nevertheless, the ball LEFT Leaks hands BEFORE the defender hit the ball...thus regardless of the rule it is still an INCOMPLETE PASS!
While I think we win with a correct call there I can't really argue that we deserved it. Once again we did not play a complete game and lack of concentration resulted in large swings of momentum and most of AU's points. While it is hard to root for them, as a FL fan I hope to see them in the SEC title game (realize that no one else here wants that and can ubnderstand why)
It should have been overturned by the replay official, but since that was Al "Aubie" Ford it is not surprising that it went the Aubies way.:wink:The past few years AU has gotten its share of calls when playing at home that have had an impact on the outcome of the game, from the guy jumping to block the kick in the LSU game until now the phantom fumble.
The fumble (incomplete pass) was a reviewable call and should have been corrected in the booth. If the arm is going forward the rule says it's an incomplete pass. If you take it as more than just coincidence, then how many times can an AU O'lineman get away with holding, or pick plays or....etc...
P.S. I didn't really care who won the game. I just don't want to play the refs when we travel to the plains.
:BigA:
That's just another in a long list of reasons for Tubs to keep the zipper on his mouth SHUT!!Tubs said, "if it was a pass, it would've been intentional grounding."
That's my point Earle. It's just my belief that if the ball never leaves the QB's hand it should be a fumble, not an attempted pass, otherwise known as an incomplete pass. Whatever, I'm not on any rules committee so my opinion matters none anyway.Arm stopping, under the present rule, is immaterial, if it started forward - either in a pump fake or attempt to pass...
Yeah, glad more people are realizing this. I have been against IR from the get go. This is the main reason right there. This season more than last year has shown that you need competent officiating. A knucklehead in a booth reviewing calls is still going to give knuckleheaded calls.Saw it today. Under the rule, it was an incomplete pass, not that I'm a big fan of that rule. I respect everyone's right to disagree, but in my book the zebras have given the Barn two games in the loveliest cow pasture.... Why we thought that putting an extra incompetent official in a replay booth was going to improve the quality of the officiating.... All it did was slow the games down.
