The Plot Thickens: QB Greg McElroy gets offer

Yes, do not be fooled by stars. I have seen this kid play and he is a legit talent. We would be very happy with him in a few years if he comes to Alabama. MM is going to Ark.

It is looking more and more like Bama will get a QB in this class, and a solid one at that. But which one? They're both excellent. Me likey. The plot thickens indeed...

No they have not. Schools cannot comment publicly on a recruit until he has signed a letter of intent. Notre Dame fans may have said they will not offer (or pursue him), but the school definitely didn't.

Ping,
It was reported in an Indiana paper that the staff said that they were not interested in signing another QB than the two that they already have. They did not specify any names but it was after MM decomitted. I had linked an article before about it.

Scout.com has listed ND as an offer to Mustain. How reliable is this?

RhodeIsland,
I am not anyone in the know so Ping, RTO, or surfer can better answer the question than I. I was just mentioning what I read in an Indiana paper a couple of weeks ago. Things can change.

I am not an expert either, but, I do know that Scout has several players currently listed as having Bama offers when last I heard, we lost interest in them or moved on from them long ago. I think Scout may use offer in the sense that "the school offered them a scholarship at one point", but, I am not at all sure.

Yep, I was on scout recently and posted here about a huge lineman from Ga. that they said had an offer from Bama and listed as his favorite. RTO or surfer corrected me and said that he tried to give his commitment to us be we wouldn't take it. Doesn't seem to me that he has an offer if we wouldn't take his commitment.

Lionel Mapp, the 6'5, 370 lb lineman is who you are referring to, Mamacalled. An offer to him at any time was most likely conditional or never existed to begin with. Big time project.

As for who has offered on a recruiting service, sometimes you have to take it with a grain of salt because due to the fact that schools can't comment on specific recruits, these services rely on the players and their high school coaches for information on who has and hasn't offered. Sometimes players will tell a service they have an offer when in fact they do not.

For instance, a school could talk to a player in person on a visit or on the phone and say, "We'd love to have you." The player then interprets that as a verbal offer when in fact true offers are written. Most of the time the information is accurate, but not all the time. Also, some offers are conditional, meaning that the coaches are up front with a player and say "We'd love to have you come to Alabama, but we have to make sure this happens first."

Going further on what Ping said....

Ensminger, the Barn QB commit, was claiming he had offers from a couple of places, including Miami.....Miami called him and said, "stop saying you have an offer from us" b/c....he never had an offer from them, much less any interest on UM's part.
