re: The time has come!-pick the score-bama-texas! And give reasons!-NO smack with rivals

Unless we get a ST or defensive score or two, yall seem to think we score a ton of points. Our offensive philosophy (CNS' philosophy more specifically) is to control the ball and wear out the other team. I think that will be really true with UT like it was against UF b/c the best player on the opposing team is the QB. Like yall I think we win, but it'll be a one score game, something like 24-17 good guys.
We could have easily had 39 against the best defense in college football. We scored 26 against Auburn in three quarters despite having our best offensive weapon limited to under fifty yards. We definately could have put 42 on Arkansas if we had to but the game was in hand. We scored 34 on VT. Vt's D averages giving up 17 points a game.

There's no reason why we can't do what we've been doing all year against Texas. Look what A&M did to them. Slice it any way you want it, but A&M sucks.

re: The time has come!-pick the score-bama-texas! And give reasons!-NO smack with rivals

I live in Dallas and unfortunately am forced to watch a lot of Big 12 Football, especially Texas all year... Texas, like Florida, aren't as good as they were last year despite returning a TON of starters. Not really sure why for either team... Sip makes a lot of good points, many which i agree with. Texas is one dementional and it's the wrong demention. If you can't run, you can't beat this Alabama team without us having a lot of turnovers or giving up special team TDs. Texas has played 2 good D's all year and they scored 16 and 13. Our D is better than both of those, so I think Texas will struggle to break 10 and may not have an offensive TD. Their Run D is inflated. Nobody in the Big 12 has a running game and their out of conference was as weak as any teams in the country. Most of those teams Texas beat badly, so they quit running anyway. Bama will get over 200 yds rushing on Texas and over 200 yds passing. I think Bama has 450+ yds of Offense and Texas has about 220, with about 50 rushing. I think Bama has 4-5 sacks and a 3 turnovers. I see the score about 34-10, maybe 34-13. ROLL TIDE!

re: The time has come!-pick the score-bama-texas! And give reasons!-NO smack with rivals

I've given this game a lot of thought.

Here's what I forecast.

I think Bama will win. I think it will be a blowout.

I base my prediction on the fact that Texas has been notoriously slow coming out of the gate on offense this year. Even against vastly inferior opponents. And they have faced two very physical football teams(Oklahoma and Nebraska) and weren't effective offensively against either one.

Therefore, I see us getting up early, even if it's only 13-3 or 10-0 before halftime. That will take Texas out of the opportunity to try and establish a running game, which they MUST have if they hope to stay in this football game.

They will then become one or two dimensional. Either McCoy running or McCoy passing.

That simply won't get the job done. Rest assured Coach Saban and Coach Smart have a plan in place to drive Colt out of his mind with multiple blitz and coverage packages. He's a great QB but he's going to be confused all night. And without a running game to support him he's going to be a duck floating on a pond with a bunch of hunters getting after him. With high powered rifles.

Texas is an outstanding football team. Very good. I respect what Mack Brown has accomplished.

But I don't think they're the same caliber team as Florida.

Florida is bigger, faster, and just as well coached. Plus they may have had the best player in the history of college football as their Quarterback.

IF we're totally focused, which I have to think we will be, I see 38-13 Bama.

I think we'll hold Texas to about the same number of points Nebraska and Oklahoma did and I think we'll blow it open in the second half by simply being more physical on both sides of the ball.

I said it before the season when I predicted a National Title......

"Yes, we're that good"

Time will tell. You never know in one single football game.

But that's my score and I'm sticking to it.

I'm honestly hoping that we beat them SO bad that the winner of TCU vs Boise State can't say we should have part of that championship?

My computer says 30-20 Bama.

My head wants to say 27-24 Bama.

My heart says 38-17 Bama.

I think I'll go with my heart on this one.

'Bama has no reason whatsoever to deviate from what got them to Pasadena to begin with.
Why not? They did against Florida.

Texas will be in the unfortunate position of "picking their own poison". I think we will start out in a chess match and take what the Texas D seems willing to give up.
This is about the only thing I don't agree with. I think it will be more like the SECCG when Alabama showed what they were going to do to FLorida and said we are going to do what we want and you're going to have to stop us. I don't see our first possesion as a jab fest (sorry but I am like one of the 5 people left who still like boxing) feel out your opponent session but rather where they let both hands fly. JMO though.

As long as the end result is crystal for the Tide I really don't care if I'm completely wrong.:biggrin2:

BAMA - 23
texas - 20

I think the Tide wins, but maybe not as big as some think because:
1. Texas throws the ball much more, so their timing in the passing game may not be as affected by the long layoff.
2. With the exception of the A&M game, they do have a good D.
3. I seriously don't want to be too overconfident. Things dont always play out the way we believe they should.

But I hope you guys are right!! RTR!!

i am concerned about this game. primarily, because of the confidence so many bama fans have. i see a texas team mostly one dimensional, but, that is a qb with real savvy as a senior, can run well, and pass at a 70 percent clip. yes their lack of a strong rush game will hurt them. my concern is their special teams, really good return men, against our average special teams covering kicks. their defense is not a big defense, but, they are quick, strong, have to be accounted for. they won two games, that were troublesome, because of the defenses they were against. we had trouble in two games against teams that really were not recognized as strong defenses. i am expecting a win, but,
very close.

I do think that we will eventually shove the ball down the collective throats of the Texas D..until they like it! Then we will give em more of what they like :)

I think it will be a lot closer. Being off for over a month, it takes offenses a while to get back in the rhythm. My fear is that if Texas comes out strong and gets ahead by 2 scores early. We will be forced to abandon our running game more and Texas has a good defense when they get ahead. Hopefully Ingram/Richardson can break the curse and have a strong game early. I think we edge them out 17-13.

2. Is the Texas D really that good? Forget the stats, they are extremely lopsided because Texas has simply played a lot of crappy teams this year. Against the best teams they've played, with the exception of Nebraska (who put up 7 on Iowa State), they haven't been so hot. Their run stats don't really matter that much considering they play in a pass-happy conference. They gave up 420 pass yards against Texas Tech, while Colt only passed for 205 yards. They gave up 327 pass yards against Oklahoma while Colt managed to pass for 127. Finally they gave up 342 against A&M. The most anyone has ever passed for us was Tennessee with 265. The difference is the Texas D has been getting turnovers in key moments. But that's because they play teams that pass on almost every down. The Big XII is just a turnover conference. OSU, who turned the ball over 5 times against Texas, turned it over 6 or 7 times against Ole Miss...what does that tell you.

Sportscenter gave an interesting stat. I don't know what it means for the final score.

I'm thinking 27-17 Not exactly the blowout some are predicting but moderately comfortable.

re: The time has come!-pick the score-bama-texas! And give reasons!-NO smack with rivals

Going into the Florida game I had a feeling BAMA would win going away. I have a feeling that we will win but, it will be a little dicey in the 1st half.

I think the layoff will hurt Texas more as Colt's timing will be off. I see BAMA wearing down the UT D as the game goes on.

7-6 Texas after 1st Q (We get over 100 yrds total O & get inside the 10 twice and settle for FG's. Shipley returns a punt for TD.)

13-10 Bama @ Half time (Bama TD final minute of half to take 1st lead of game)

23-13 Bama after 3 Q's (teams trade FG's on opening drives, Bama goes on 6 min drive to end Q w/ 10 point lead.)

30-20 Bama final score. (UT closes to 23-20 early 4th Q but BAMA goes on 80 yrd 8 min drive with huge doses of Ingram & Richardson to seal the game)

Bama finishes with 400 yards offense, G-Mac 16-25 185 yards and 1 TD, 0 INT's. Ingram 20 carries for 105 yards 1 TD, Richardson 15 carries 80 yards 1 TD.

We hold Colt to 21-45 passing for 235 yards 1 TD and 2 INT's. UT is held to under 40 yards rushing.

re: The time has come!-pick the score-bama-texas! And give reasons!-NO smack with rivals

I am going to go against the grain a bit and say that Texas uses this time off to find some form of a running game using unorthodox methods or wrinkles as they are called. But after the first quarter we will be onto what they are doing and shut that down.

I also believe that Tebow and Mccoy are not that much different and if we play Mccoy like Tebow, he is going to be in trouble. IDK Texas and UF mirror each other in many ways I feel.

But in the second half Texas abandons the run and goes with what they know but BAMA's defense is just too fast and strong for Texas. As for BAMA's offense, Ingram,TR, and UP are going to show Texas the meaning of pain and once they load the box, we play action or even play some spread like against UF and its just too much.

re: The time has come!-pick the score-bama-texas! And give reasons!-NO smack with rivals

Their run defense is not a fluke or a mirage. They've handled more rushing attempts than us and allowed much fewer yards. They are only allowing 2.0 yds/attempt. True - some of this is a consequence of facing offenses who are not very good at rushing. But you don't lead the nation (by a wide margin, mind you) in both fewest total rushing yards allowed and fewest yards per attempt solely on the debatable rushing weakness of their Big 12 opponents. There's some defensive skill involved in that accomplishment as well.

As we know from our experience with AU (allowing 4.1 yds/attempt - not exactly a defensive powerhouse) this year, our rushing attack is not an irresistible force.

Texas knows that we will try to establish the run and play ball/clock control. They will sell out to stop that run, trying to force GMAC into throwing into their ball-hawking and very talented secondary. Several opponents have underestimated our passing game this year and tried the same thing. Every time, we've risen to the occasion. We can move the ball through the air on UT, but I don't think they'll give us the ground before late in the 3rd or even the 4th. And I don't think the passing yardage will come easy either - they'll get an INT or two, and force quite a few incompletions.

When they have the ball, they won't even attempt to run. They know they don't run well and they know we won't allow it anyway. I don't think they'll be foolish enough to try to run too much with McCoy. That crap may work against A&M, but if they try to do that too much, Rolo or Mark Barron will take him out of the game in a hurry. They know this and know that if Colt gets injured or gun-shy, they're toast. They'll instead try to play the Utah gameplan and drag receivers over the middle, beneath the coverage, on quick-pass crossing patterns all night long. If we compensate by pulling up our safeties, they'll try to go downfield on long posts. We'll get burned once or twice by Shipley on this, but on the whole, our D is good enough to keep them largely contained. And without the serious threat of a run, McClain and the rest of the linebackers will be free to patrol the middle of the field in pass coverage - wouldn't be surprised to see a few INTs coming our way as well.

All in all, mostly a close defensive battle, with our running game finally kicking in late to seal the deal after their D is worn down.

Love everyone's optimism and my "ticker" would dearly love a blow out. However; IMHO the game will be close as both teams come out flat after the long lay off and as a result the score is low. In the end BAMA will wear down the Texas D and we will own Q4! Final score:

Texas 7

I would think the long lay-off would affect a passing teams timing much more than a running team. :)
