I kind of hope Ty does really well against the Barn and whoever Alabama plays in the post season so he decides to head to the NFL so he and Alabama can move on.
I am not going to sit here and wring my hands over what some 19yr old kid decides to do because he is not starting right this very second. I think it would be incredibly stupid for any QB to transfer simply because they are not starting as a true sophomore/RS freshman but if they do whoopty do, next guy up. We can get on this carousel endlessly- maybe we should push Russel out for the next 5 star, etc etc. IMO you can’t run a program like that for long (see Colorado). I think it would be best for the program for Ty to come back next year as a veteran and I’m just not going to worry about what tantrums the bench throws. Unless someone has inside info that Russel is demanding to start or transfer, I really don’t think he transfers.
Ty throws one pick 6 and he is now a head case that should transfer to a smaller school to get to make it in the NFL? Really?
Read the post again and take a breath. I said thats what I would tell my kid to do if the current momentum holds. There is an emerging pattern that could mean a loss of draft stock. He should do what’s best for him was the general thought. If he rebounds to his early form I think he goes in the draft and early.
The narrative of him transferring to a lesser program when he could come back to Bama would be way more detrimental to his NFL stock than coming back and competing at Bama and building resiliency.
I read your entire post and I think you are the one who should take a breath- there is no emerging pattern of a doom spiral and talking about how Ty should probably transfer to a small school “if it continues” is blowing the OU game out of all proportion with no consideration for how other deficiencies in the offense have impacted Ty’s numbers compared to earlier in the season.
This is true, but the last second-round pick last year signed for $7.2 million. Still not a bad gig if you can get it.
With these guys making millions in college I would think more decisions would be made outside of the thought of money when deciding whether to come back for another year or go. Look at Ty, he's already a millionaire and if he came back next season he'd be paid more millions. So knowing if everything ended right there he'd be comfortably set for the rest of his life even if he never suited up in the NFL. So being in that position, I would think players like Ty would make the decision on whether to come back or stay based on things like "Do I need another year to develop my game?" not "more money".
This is true but stars make way more money on their 2nd contract. Especially QBs. So if coming back increases his odds of a big 2nd contract then it would be worth it.
