Those silly barners

While sitting at work this afternoon bored out of my mind, I decided to browse over to aunation.net to see what the barners were up to. This being the first time I have ever been to that site, I was expecting in depth discussions about the Au defense, Tubbs and Borges's plans for the fall, and breakdowns about Auburn's A-Day game.

Instead, all I see is a bunch of morons talking about how better they are than UA, how they have five in a row on us, etc etc. The funniest one I saw says that AU has won more NCs than Alabama, especially in swimming and diving. Now, while I commend they're swimming and diving programs, who really gives a rats a** about those sports? I saw where a "bammer" had posted a reply saying basically since the football team at AU can't win a NC, then someone else there had to. He was immediately attacked on a personal level with no logical reply to his arguments.

When you first pull up this board, you don't see topics upon topics upon topics attacking AU or its fanbase. You see logical threads and interesting discussions based on University of Alabama football and news. This just makes me realize how good we have it here. It also makes me realize that since the arrival of CNS, the barners are really quaking in their boots way more than they will ever admit. :BigA:

Far too graphic for my personal taste ... and as you saw, moronic claims, expressions, etc. Don't really care whether or not they "quake" have 2nd thoughts, etc. What I do want is for them to know they are in the game of their life when they play Bama again! Personally, I'm more than ready for a repeat of a nine year win run ... aren't you?:biggrin: :BigA:

The only thing they can hang their hat on for the last 10 or so years Alabama has essentially sucked (with the exception of 2000) is that they've beaten us five straight times. The only other "notable" accomplishments they've had is winning the SEC once and going undefeated that year (but practically forgotten since people remember who won the national championship, USC and LSU). It's really amazing to see that they think they're "all that" but really have nothing great to show for it.

They act just like UCLA fans that most USC have encountered. My brother attended the USC-UCLA game that the Trojans lost, and as his friends and him were leaving, a couple of older UCLA fans shouted "Have fun at the Rose Bowl in January!" in a mocking tone as if going a bowl game in San Franscisco played in a baseball stadium is a better game to go to than going to the Grandaddy of them all.

My guess is that because we live mostly here in our own regional environs, we don't really have a day to day exposure to the woofing that goes on between some of the big rivalries. If you lived in an area like California Tide has, you can get an idea of the intenseness of theirs. There's probably as much vitriol out there as what we have to deal with. I'm thinking maybe Texas and aTm go at each other as hard we do with those bizarre people down at the University of Auburn.

Right now, UCLA fans can only claim men's BB as their dominant sport. They used to be the football king in Los Angeles, up until Pete Carroll got hired. Now that USC men's basketball is starting to rise (if it continues remains to be seen), UCLA fans have only one, temporary, card to "trump" USC and that is the US World News and Report college rankings, which last I checked, UCLA was beating USC by 2-3 spots.

Anywho, because of USC being very dominant in college football and UCLA only taking one game in the entire Pete Carroll era away from the Trojans, this is the typical UCLA talk:

-If USC and UCLA are going after the same player and said player chooses USC, then said player couldn't possibly have the grades to get into UCLA

-If said player chooses UCLA, then that means USC has lost its attraction and is on the way down

-USC will always suck b/c they're USC and they don't care how many Rose Bowls (a very big deal in Pac 10), national championships, Pac 10 conference titles, etc.

-UCLA made t-shirts for beating USC this year in the annual rivalry game. Nevermind the fact that they needed to win out their last 3-4 games JUST TO BECOME BOWL ELIGIBLE and nevermind the fact that they lost in the Emerald Bowl, which isn't a real bowl game since it's held in a baseball stadium

-Finally, UCLA fans consider their men's BB performance in the national championship game last year against Florida to be better and more worthy of "champions status" than USC's performance in possibly one of the best bowl games ever, the USC-Texas Rose Bowl game where both defenses basically got shredded.

The fact that this site is "better" than aunation.com has more to do with who is running it and what they allow as opposed to being an overall reflection of the two fan bases. We've all known AU fans that are great and AU fans that are jerks. We've all know UA fans that are great and UA fans that are jerks. If you go looking, al.com comes to mind, you can easily find UA message boards that have the same level of childish rhetoric as you saw on aunation.

That being said, AU sucks!

As a USC fan, it's very confusing but I'd say that this is the case for all rivalries, they all have those nutjobs just that absolutely hate their rival school. I hate Auburn and hope my kids (if I have 'em) don't go there, but I'm willing to talk to them in a normal, civil way.

In regards to Cal-Stanford, it's much of the same thing. It's interesting that in California, the major rivalries (USC-UCLA and Cal-Stanford) are all private school vs. public school; USC and Stanford are private schools and Cal and UCLA are public schools. So the whole education thing gets thrown in there when really, if you get a degree from any of those schools, you should be able to do real well in the state, if not nationwide.

I know hat y'all are thinking, us Californians can be very weird at times. It's ok, it's to be expected to be considered weird and from California at the same time!

Not that I know of. While we might have one or two threads about AU on our front page they seem to always have a dozen or more UA threads on theirs. I wish the one or two threads would be minimized, it is way more bandwidth than they deserve.

This man speaks the truth. I prefer the moderators to be able to make a coherent statement that doesn't look like something a 6th grader would write.

The thing that really struck me about aunation.com is that all they seem to talk about is how they are so much better than Bama at everything, and they waste no opportunity to slam the "bammers" and the school at any chance they get. This is evident in the number of threads they have about UA, and as Pike mentioned their oh so very sad signatures.

You would think that with all the talent they have and their offensive coordinator they would be talking about how they are going to dominate the SEC west and give Arkansas and Georgia some payback. But no, all they talk about is how they are going to whip Bama in November.

Honestly, if Tubbs or whoever succeeds him gets 10 in a row on Bama then they can brag. But we all know that with the arrival of CNS the chances of that happening have been drastically reduced, and the barners know it too. :BigA:
