CNS has been watching one team these past few years, and that is Georgia. They win with a dominate O and D line. They play smash mouth football, and they run the ball and control the game. To be honest this is the way the old Saban wanted to play on the O side of the ball, and I think this is what he wants to go back to. I think that CNS believes that Coach Rees is the person who can turn Bama back to what it used to be. Now, he has to find the DC that can also turn the D back 10 years into the type of defense we all know and love.
UGA isn't as pound the ground as you think - less than .2% difference from our 2020 season to their 2022 season

UA 2020 - pass 47.1%, run 52.9%

UGA 2022 - pass 46.9% run 53.1%

2022 was just a bit different with about a 2% difference
UA 2022 - pass 48.9%, run 51.1%

BUT - it's much more about what plays are called when, being less predictable based on formations and tendancies, using the right formations to setup certain things, knowing how to use motion and create matchups.

UGA imposed their will in the run game when the score was close to open up the game. Something we couldn’t do this past season.

I'm glad to see this as well. I don't have the expertise to opine, but I'm deadly curious as to how much O'Brien's difficulties stemmed from our OL, and conversely how much our OL struggles stemmed from O'Brien's slow play calling.

The OL seemed to get better as the season progressed (credit to Coach Wolf there) but was never truly satisfactory.

So I'm curious as to how much influence an OC has on any position group that he doesn't personally coach.

I certainly trust Coach Saban's judgement and, I believe this will be an excellent hire. Coach Saban wanted a particular type OC (one who would run his preferred offense) specifically. I believe Rees to be a super competitive type who will get the most out of his players. One of Alabama's greatest HCs, Frank Thomas was a Notre Dame alum. I am really pleased we did not drag in another NFL castoff OC. Looking forward to finding a new DC. I am ready for spring practice with Coach Rees.

Similar to Alabama, UGA out talented their competition. Unlike Alabama, UGA has a decidedly weaker schedule than Alabama. I still think we would have beaten the dawgs had we gotten the opportunity but, they won back to back titles so I'll give them that. But they are still Bama wannabes IMHO.

Greg McElroy:
“You guys like 2015 Derrick Henry-led offense? Because that’s what you’re going to get with Tommy Rees,” he said. “It may not be with one back, but you’re going to get heavy personnel, and you’re going to get a downhill rushing attack, a la 2009, a la 2010, a la 2011 and 2012, 2010 not as much. Either way, that’s a downhill, flat-back rushing attack. … We were less-balanced in 2010 when the game was on the line than in any of the other 3 seasons, which is why we didn’t win it.”

McElroy then channeled some fans’ point of view about wanting the “good old days” with Jim McElwain as OC, and said, “That’s what you’re going to get.”

McElroy added that Rees would use tight ends from a “12 personnel” package to “hammer” opponents.

“I think it’s a very effective style of attack,” he said. “I love the hire, personally, it’s exactly what I want the Bama offense to be, and it’s what I believe in.”
