TOO Conservative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiffin should have never been in the position to miss the last two field goals. Our red zone offense was having success moving the ball through the air. For Shula to play those two drives for the field goal without taking at least one shot to the end zone is really setting Tiffin up for failure. This guy has a future kicking but its pretty obvious from today he's a freshman and is going to have to grow into big games. The decision to not let Christensen kick I thought was a good one. By sending him out there cold and thinking all week he wasn't going to have to kick PAT and FG's you set him up for failure. All that being said, in the SEC you have to hit extra points. I think its safe to say that we really don't have to worry about Miami wanting Shula.

Play calling was fine. Lack of a kicking game and Darby still having issues. Well coached game, not the coaches fault that FG's went wide and players try to improvise a little too much at times and if you think other wise you are a fool plain and simple.

1st & 10...Darby Up The Middle For 1 Yard

I had to of seen that play 20 times today...was it not obvious to the coaching staff that it wasn't working?

Re: 1st & 10...Darby Up The Middle For 1 Yard

well when our qb and receivers were putting up numbers like they did today, why accept a 1 yard run every first and 2nd down?

Thank you TF17...you are talking some sense...these things happen in football and you have to remember these are 18-22 year olds we are watching. The coaching was fine...not a perfect game but better than what we had when we were 3-8.

Re: 1st & 10...Darby Up The Middle For 1 Yard

Three inches and a cloud of dust is about the best we can expect from Shula. It's a loser's mentality but that's what he believes in.

I'm just speechless. We dominated that game in more ways than one and came up short. Just like the last 3 games. We have an awesome team that has huge potential and we can't seem to score. Florida is not Arkansas my friend. We will have to win next week or the rest of the year looks mighty grim. With LSU,Tennessee, and the Barners also on the menu, we got to pull something together and show the nation we are better than this.
Yeah, playing for a field goal and missing 10 points were not what a championship team does but they also don't go into double overtime with and unranked team.

Roll Tide, season's not over! We can always spoil someone else's bowl chances.

I agree. Tiffin should never have been put in that position. We can blame the defense for letting them stick it in in OT2, but in fact this loss is on Shula. His stubborness cost the kids this ballgame. And it's a shame because Arkansas still hasn't stopped our receivers. We dominated through the air. All this time I was worried about this being JPW's first start on the road. He was wonderful. It's a shame his coach didn't trust him enough to give him a chance to win.

Please sign me up for the fool camp. We didnt't make an effort to score a TD on the last drive of the game or the first drive of OT. Our red zone passing game looked as good as its been all season. Coaches don't kick FG's but they do call plays that make FG attempts highly likely. Which is exactly what Shula did today. Great game plan if you have Brian Bostick his senior year or Phillip Doyle but not smart when you have a freshman who struggled. With the plays that were called in the 1st OT we should have ran out there and kicked it on first down.

How is the play calling fine when your tied 17-17 have a first down in the red zone and play for a field goal! We are still to predictable from the 10 yd line in...although I did think the call on the TD in OT was good!

Sorry, this one is on the kicker and I think even he will admit it.

Ok...are you completely unwilling to hold Shula accountable for the fact that he should be aware that we have an 18 year old, true freshman kicker? Nevermind that fact that we were playing in one of the league's most hostile environments.

It's most certainly on Shula--he's got to take those things into account. This isn't the NFL, where you have Martin Grammatica waiting to punch it through the second you're in field goal range. It seems Mike Shula is the only person watching college football that fails to realize such.

Shula is very conservative. It has generally worked during his tenure. It is not very exciting play calling, but he controls the clock and wears down the defense. Usually that would be an advantage in OT. However, when your kicker misses two easy field goals, it doesn't matter.
Having said that, I think we can't really pin the blame on one, because Tiffin shouldn't have been in that position. To pin the game on the shoulders of a true freshman on the road, well, it isn't exactly the greatest strategy. However, you would expect him to make an extra point at least.

I don't understand why CMS is unassailable in the eyes of some. Did Tiffin miss the kicks? Obviously! But we were driving the ball at will at the end of regulation and we settle for a field goal with over three minutes remaining! Even if we make it, we are still in a position to lose with an Arkansas TD. Then in OT, we don't do anything to get closer.

And that's not to mention Jimmy Johns riding the pine while KD is struggling like crazy. I understand that KD is talented, but figure out his problems during practice or next week against UF. WE NEEDED TO WIN THIS WEEK!!!

Shula cost us a shot at Arkansas two years ago (punting inside the forty), cost us the UT game three years ago (punting on fourth and an inch!), refused to close out Hawaii three weeks ago (punting inside forty), and settled for FG's this week, costing us another game.

When will the crimson colored glasses come off the BamaNation?

I don't want to be too harsh on Shula b/c the offense looked a lot better today, except the running game. But it is fair to question his "killer instinct." We had ARK on the ropes and then let up with running plays that a HS team would stop. When guys are performing (JPW, KB,DJ), put more of the game in their hands.

It really seems that Shula does not like to adjust, or want to adjust from a game plan. There is no way we should have run that much when our passing game was doing so well. We needed to continue passing and force them to play that, rather than the run, and then we might have more success when 8-9 guys aren't looking for a run every 1st and 2nd down.

I have been questioning Shula's play calling in scoring position for a while. I was ridiculed, had a topic deleted and my sanity was questioned. These people love to blame the kids but hate the idea of the coaching being called into question.

It is like I told my brother. Once you get in the 30, you expect a FG BUT YOU PLAY FOR A TOUCHDOWN! Shula didn't do that and he bears every bit of the responsibility for losing that Tiffin does. In fact, I think he bears more because he's the one sending that poor kid out there in a situation that Shula created AFTER Tiffin was obviously struggling.

I questioned the running up the middle in scoring position during the Vandy game. I was told that win was all that mattered. Well what matters now? Some poor kid is going to get run out of town when Alabama could be celebrating right now.

One thing to remember...if any of the kicks are made or whatever your gripe is and we win, everybody is happy. I bet someone would still be complaining even if we had won. Tide folks, the reality is this...sometimes your decisions work out and sometimes they do not. That is the way life is. Does anyone get on a message board and criticize your job performance weekly and 365 days a year? Probably not...
