Tourney bound?

I can't really spend too much time thinking about it because if I do I can't focus on anything else, I forget to take my pill, I get ornery, and people find it very hard to share space with me for any appreciable time.

All we really had to do was beat Auburn...

I think we need to win Sat and win 2 SEC tourny games. Or pray that every other bubble team collapses.

Will we make the NCAA? Just something to discuss.

Our only guarantee, is to win the SEC tourney - which we have the talent to do EASILY. The question is do we have the desire - which I seriously doubt. A team that plays flat and uninspired all season long is not going to change now. Basically Alabama has 3 games left this season. Miss State, the opening round loss in the SEC torney, and the opening round loss in the NIT.

Don't shoot the messenger. I wish we would play hard and win every game.

FWIW, ESPN has us out and CBS has us in. (CBS lists us as "at large" and not as a "Bubble team," but they also say we are not worthy of a bid.)

True. Unfortunately, the other bubble teams have not been collapsing. If we beat MSU and then either UT, UK, or Vandy(our possible opponents with a win over MSU) next Friday, then I think we will get in. The Auburn loss was a killer, but we could have probably survived that loss with an overtime win in Knoxville. IMO, winning in Starkville will be more difficult than getting a win in the SEC Tournament.

Is solid resume enough?

While we don't have a flashy resume in terms of wins over top 10 teams, our resume is solid. A win over MSU and our RPI should be near 30. We are 2-1 vs. ranked teams, and have several wins versus NCAA trny teams like winthrop and xavier, as well as non-conference wins against decent teams like OK and NCSt as well as Iowa. We have three neutral sight wins and with a win over state a few road wins. Like I said not flashy but solid. The real question is what will the committee look at the most this year. Some years it is #'s (RPI, 20+ wins, .500 league mark, decent sos), other years they seem to disregard these numbers in favor of a good story(primarily mid-majors who get a lot of press leading into Selection Sunday, and teams who finished strong in their last ten games). It has been proven that success in the last ten does not=success in the trny, however it is a factor. Bama will be about 5-5 or 6-4 the last ten so to me this is a non factor. Ithink a win at MSU with one win in the trny we are in on paper, But we will need all the smaller conference trny's to go as expected. Upsets in these trny's could lead to some smaller schools receiving at large bids, limiting our chances. One thing is clear: Lose to MSU and we will have to win the trny.

Re: Is solid resume enough?

I think we are in with one win in the SEC tourney and a win at MSU since our first game will be against Tenn, Vandy, or Kentucky unless the lower ranked west team gets an upset which i doubt. The fact is our computer numbers are good, we may not have a quality win but who did we have a chance to get a quality win against? If you dont count Kentucky as a quality win than i dont see how you can count Tennessee since they split the season series with them, actually they crushed them at home and only lost by 4 on the road. Thus we had Vandy, Florida, or Notre Dame i guess. That is only three games, and if we would have beaten Vandy they probably wouldnt be considered quality either. We will probably get in with 2 more wins, defiantly in with 3 more wins.

Yeah i defiantly don't agree that we have the talent to EASILY win the tourney. Who on our team has the talent to take over when we need it most? Who on our team, without Steele, would you want to have the ball at the end of a tight game? I think we have some talented players, Davidson and Hendrix, then i think we have a lot of players with work left to do. Who is a dominating point guard on our team? i think you would be able to answer all these questions if Steele was 100%.
