The sweet 16 is set so a great time for our favorite transfer portal to open up. There is a few guys that have entered but mostly guys with coaches leaving and others coming in. A few names that pop out are some good shooters. Dedan Thomas UNLV. Josh Dix from Iowa, Isaac Mcneely Virginia. Owen Freeman Iowa. I really like Freemab as a 6’10” stretch 4 type but more of a 15-18 foot then taking 3 pointers at Iowa. He could be great replacement for Nelson as they seem to be similar type players. Nelson averaged 16.7 points 6.7 rebounds shot 63.8 from floor.

I think we need at last 2 or 3 guys from the portal. I am not super high on the 2025 class with the freshman guys coming in. I feel like the guys coming in are complimentary type guys. Hannah gives me Rylan Griffin feel with decent height but on the thinner side and average athleticism. Jemison has a better body type but his shot has been a bit of a question maybe more like a Juwan Gary guy. You never know as all I have seen was few reports and little bit of video so guys can improve or not be as advertised. I thought Stevenson would be a stud and fill right in for Clowney but he hasn’t been able too. I also didn’t think Clowney was going to be 1 and done 1st round guy like he turned out to be. We will lose Nelson, Sears, Cliff for sure at most like a few more based on the times. I thought Stevenson would definitely be leaving for pros but I haven’t seen much improvement from him but he might still leave or transfer out to see if he can get a bounce in his stock somewhere else. I could see UNC try to bring him back home as they are looking for more size from what Davis said.

We will lose as you said Grant, Sears, Cliff, Youngblood then add in probably Stevenson, Philon. Hopefully not Sherrell, or anyone else. Will be a heavy portal year to have a competitive roster again it seems like. Need a better ball handler and big.

Hoping Adrian Wooley from Kennesaw St enters the portal. He averaged 18 ppg as a freshman this year, and is from Tuscaloosa. We should be a major player if he enters.
Wooley would be interesting. He hit over 42% on three-point shots this season. His FG% and 3pt% are higher than Eaglestaff's. Eaglestaff hit in the 36-38% range on three-pointers during his three years.

I haven't paid much attention to our B-ball recruiting. I should do better.

But, I trust CNO.

I keep hoping Stevenson breaks out, but I've lost most hope it'll happen. He has incredible size and potential, but he just plays off balance and except his defensive quickness and length (which CNO values or he wouldn't get as much PT) he's virtually a bust. 100% offensively speaking!

It'll be interesting to see what'll happen with him. NBA scouts apparently like his intangibles but at the end of the day if you can't shoot you can't play basketball at the highest levels.

It may not be a popular stance, but I hope we part ways with him IF we can add another stretch 4 who can shoot!

And since you mentioned him. Clowney was incredible. What a find by CNO. If you could get anybody close to what Clowney was we should open up the NIL bank!

6-5 shooter. Yes! Sounds like a replacement for Youngblood. Hope he enters and comes "home."

There's also Eaglestaff from North Dakota. He made us look like the worst defense in history. I believe he is also testing the NBA waters.
I know some think he's a defensive liability and I know CNO doesn't recruit a guy just because he can shoot the 3, but guys like Eaglestaff are worth the gamble.

We've led the nation in scoring 2 years now. CNO needs scorers.

And, who needs defense when you can just outscore everybody???

Hearing some smoke around Joson Sanon from Arizona State. I don't know that he's officially in the portal yet, but it's been reported that he plans to enter, and to watch out for Alabama when he does, so sounds like we may be making a push. Good size and pretty good shooter. It sounds like he's got the potential to be a very good defender also, but that's still a work in progress. I think I'd prefer him over Eaglestaff tbh, but Nate knows best.
