However, his campaign fund-raising is lagging. If that continues, he'll be driven to Facebook and Twitter for fund-raising reasons...
I think he’s tapped out most of the “less affluent” rednecks; I don’t know how much luck he’ll have either place. I think he’s nearing bottom.
But he may surprise with another ingenious “con” that might fleece a few.

I really think he's unelectable now. I think the midterms showed that...
in the general, yes. whether or not that translates to the primaries remains to be seen. there doesn't seem to be a lot of "not trump" out there in the gop primary electorate, at least not enough to keep him from the nomination if there are enough folks splitting the not-trump , but we'll find out soon enough.

Yup, I'm not sure he can be stopped in the primaries but the winning general will be a big stretch.

Right now, Trump is working overtime trying to repair bridges between MAGA and the establishment Republicans. His recent dalliances with Lindsay Graham are proof of this. Problem is, many MAGA supporters are seeing this as a betrayal worthy of Sammy the Bull. It seems to me that the establishment has figured out how to put a leash on Trump, at least in the short term and that's by stroking his massive ego. Trump will fall for this every single time. Is this a sustainable solution? Color me skeptical. Trump is like a pit bull: he does exactly what you expect him to all the way up until he doesn't.

I look for this primary season to be quite different from 2016. Then, the candidates saw the field as wide open, which led to the dozen or more trying to break through. I expect Haley, already declared, Pompy, Pence and maybe a couple more. If more do, I expect a lot more early dropouts, all because of Trump's presence and the MAGA fear. All this is off, of course, if Trump's legal difficulties prevent his running...

assuming he's not pushing up daisies by then, the 2024 primaries will be a quicker version of 2016 with him coming out on top, and it will be a bigger crap show
I'm not sure about that. If the field is smaller than 2016 with DeSantis in it he may have more difficulty. He may still win, but DeSantis has a lot of support, and many Republicans see him as a more electable version of Trump. I agree with what Earle said that Trump can't win a general. He's polling ok right now, but that is with him out of the spotlight to some extent. When the cameras are on him daily independents are going to like him less and less. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but when Trump comes back you remember why you don't like him more and more.

Many of my conservative friends that liked Trump in 2016 and then voted for him in 2020 are telling me they won't vote for him in the primary. I know that is anecdotal, but I wonder if they are a good sample of the feelings of many people on the right side of the aisle? When we start voting we will know. I can tell you I won't vote for Trump during the primaries. I would vote for my neighbors dog first.

I don't think there's any question that DeSantis is more electable than Trump. His House voting record will placate enough neocons to keep him in it, but his Trump-esque rhetoric will also appeal to the right. Both primaries will be mighty interesting down the stretch.
