Trump seeks to cut restrictions on marijuana through planned order

The president is expected to direct agencies to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule III drug, similar to some common prescription painkillers.
President Donald Trump is expected to push the government to dramatically loosen federal restrictions on marijuana, reducing oversight of the plant and its derivatives to the same level as some common prescription painkillers and other drugs, according to six people familiar with the discussions.

Trump discussed the plan with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) in a Wednesday phone call from the Oval Office, said four of the people, who, like the others, spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. The president is expected to seek to ease access to the drug through an upcoming executive order that directs federal agencies to pursue reclassification, the people said.

The move would not legalize or decriminalize marijuana, but it would ease barriers to research and boost the bottom lines of legal businesses.

i can't wait to see the hand waving and hear the excuses for this.

"Provide their social media histories from the last five years."
What does that even mean?

Can I give the federal government my Twitter account ("I'm a normal, peaceful guy with nothing to hide") and just not mention my other twitter account ("Bloodthirsty terrorist")?
For the federal law enforcement reading this, I do not actually own the Twitter account "Bloodthirsty terrorist." It was just an example.

When you're dealing with a cultish like following as trump is, reality means little.

I mean...

"Please give us your social media accounts."

"I have none. Don't use the stuff."

"Ok, move along..."

How do you even begin to screen that many people and accounts? Or prove that one belongs to them? Is this fake news?

On the immigration card there is a box to tick "I am a member of a terrorist organization."
I've sometimes wondered if any terrorist has ticked "yes."
I gather the whole exercise is to have another charge (lying on a government form) to through at a terrorist commits an act of terrorism in the US.

These are the same people who have a meltdown over a vaccine passport.

U.S. President Donald Trump honored the legendary 1980 U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team with Congressional Gold Medals, marking one of the most iconic moments in sports history. The “Miracle on Ice” victory over the Soviet Union symbolized Cold War-era resilience and national pride. This video captures the full historic moment as the administration outlines the purpose and impact of the newly signed bill.

=============

Watch the final minute of play in the "Miracle on Ice," where though the Soviet Union was a four-time defending gold medalist and heavily favored, the United States upset them and won 4–3 on February 22, 1980.

Commander who oversaw boat strikes steps down amid rumors of a clash DORAL, FL – In a sunny courtyard on a stage framed by palm trees, the U.S. military commander who has overseen strikes on nearly two dozen boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific relinquished his position in a Friday, Dec. 12, ceremony, amid rumors he clashed with the Trump administration and its deadly counternarcotics operations.

The departure of Adm. Alvin Holsey after barely a year on a job that most stay in for several years has fed suspicions about behind-the-scenes tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over the boat strikes and a possible brewing U.S. attack on Venezuela.

As commander of Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), which oversees U.S. military operations in Latin America, Holsey has presided over the Trump administration's killing of at least 87 people it alleges were engaged in drug trafficking on boats traversing international waters. The New York Times has reported that Holsey raised concerns about the boat strikes, and the Wall Street Journal wrote that Hegseth had asked him for months to step down.
