Trump Announces Pardon for Honduran Ex-President Convicted in Drug Case

President Trump said he would pardon Juan Orlando Hernández, who prosecutors said partnered with cocaine traffickers as Honduras’s president and is serving a 45-year sentence.
President Trump announced on Friday afternoon his intention to grant “a Full and Complete Pardon” to a former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, who was found guilty by an American jury last year of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States in a sweeping drug case.

Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all

As two men clung to a stricken, burning ship targeted by SEAL Team 6, the Joint Special Operations commander followed the defense secretary’s order to leave no survivors.
The longer the U.S. surveillance aircraft followed the boat, the more confident intelligence analysts watching from command centers became that the 11 people on board were ferrying drugs.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave a spoken directive, according to two people with direct knowledge of the operation. “The order was to kill everybody,” one of them said.

A missile screamed off the Trinidad coast, striking the vessel and igniting a blaze from bow to stern. For minutes, commanders watched the boat burning on a live drone feed. As the smoke cleared, they got a jolt: Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck.

The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack — the opening salvo in the Trump administration’s war on suspected drug traffickers in the Western Hemisphere — ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, two people familiar with the matter said. The two men were blown apart in the water.

Hegseth’s order, which has not been previously reported, adds another dimension to the campaign against suspected drug traffickers. Some current and former U.S. officials and law-of-war experts have said that the Pentagon’s lethal campaign — which has killed more than 80 people to date — is unlawful and may expose those most directly involved to future prosecution.

Morality aside, just from a combat effectiveness perspective, I'd prefer to grab these bozos and interrogate them. Who knows what beans they might spill if properly motivated, both on the shipping end and the receiving end.

From the perspective of the Law of Armed Conflict, I think both the guy who gave the order and the guy who executed it are both in legal trouble, if this story is true. Given the source, I have my doubts.

Congressional committees vow to boost oversight in killing of boat strike survivors

The Senate and House armed services committees’ pledge followed a Washington Post report revealing that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered that a U.S. strike leave no survivors.

Republican-led committees in the Senate and the House say they will amplify their scrutiny of the Pentagon after a Washington Post report revealing that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave a spoken order to kill all crew members aboard a vessel suspected of smuggling drugs in the Caribbean Sea several weeks ago.

A live drone feed showed two survivors from the original crew of 11 clinging to the wreckage of their boat after the initial missile attack Sept. 2, The Post reported Friday afternoon. The Special Operations commander overseeing the operation then ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s directive, according to two people with direct knowledge of the operation, killing both survivors. Those people, along with five others in the original report, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.

Late Friday, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sen. Jack Reed (Rhode Island), the committee’s top Democrat, issued a statement saying that the committee “is aware of recent news reports — and the Department of Defense’s initial response — regarding alleged follow-on strikes on suspected narcotics vessels.” The committee, they said, “has directed inquiries to the Department, and we will be conducting vigorous oversight to determine the facts related to these circumstances.”

The leaders of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Mike D. Rogers (R-Alabama) and Rep. Adam Smith (D-Washington), followed suit late Saturday. In a brief joint statement, the pair said they are “taking bipartisan action to gather a full accounting of the operation in question.” The committee, they noted, is “committed to providing rigorous oversight of the Department of Defense’s military operations in the Caribbean.”

Hegseth is an unqualified joke but nothing will come of this.

Most of our top government officials. The competent ones like Russell Vought are so blinded by ideology they are even worse.

Vought's daughter has cystic fibrosis and has benefited greatly from an experimental drug developed at the NIH. This development would simply not occur in the private world due to the expense and limited market. Despite this Vought wants to completely shut down the NIH. I find such thinking illogical.

He and his family will still have access to the medicine for his daughter to hell with everyone else...

For those of you keeping score at home, the bleached blonde press secretary confirms that Hegseth said to kill everyone while Hegseth has denied he ever said that.

(it would be just like Trump to tell Hegseth to do this, get him to do it, and then put Hegseth on the hook for murder).

It is amazing to me how many people still trust a guy who has demonstrated at every corner that no contract, no promise, no marital vow, no payment plan obligate him to do anything.
