Trump's Policies Part 4

It's funny to me how "Trump isn't a politician" is the cliche' right up until the moment he gets caught lying ridiculously - and then the very people who say "he's not a politician" want to hide behind "ALL politicians do that". How convenient!
I'll be honest, I fell for that "Trump is not a politician" cliché back in 2016. It made perfect sense to me at the time. Hell, I might have even voted for him had he been running as an independent and wasn't so obnoxious behind a microphone. However, anyone who has been paying attention now knows that Trump absolutely IS a politician. Not only that, he's shockingly good at it. (And that is not praise of Trump, but an indictment of American politics.)

Trump fits right in with the lies and exaggerated claims. It's true that something does seem different about him from the rest, but I think that has more to do with his personality. When people talk about how Trump is different, I am reminded of those two elderly muppets from the Muppet Show (Statler and Waldorf) after one particular musical number:

[Statler] Well, that was different.

[Waldorf] You mean you liked it?!

[Statler] No.

[Waldorf] Then it wasn't different!

[Both] D'OH, HO HO HO HO.....

I spend too much time DEFENDING people who took that point of view, largely because if someone pays attention as little as most voters do, I can at least understand the sentiment with almost anyone. What I don't get is why anyone would vote for a guy who mismanaged the most mismanaged pandemic in the history of the world AND THEN oversaw 1/6.

I'm willing to grant a ton of grace on 2016, but returning him to power is like dating a rapist (an apt metaphor) and then being shocked he's exactly who he is.

Trump fits right in with the lies and exaggerated claims. It's true that something does seem different about him from the rest, but I think that has more to do with his personality.

I think part of it is that because of social media and interconnectivity - and his incessant, almost every word leaving his mouth is a lie - that it is SO constant that a lie ("I am NOT a crook!") no longer has time to bake into the public consciousness any longer. It's also easier now - with both a filtered AND biased media thoroughly discredited through various means, some fair, some foul - to find a response that one likes to throw out there, which is all the game is any longer.

Remember Cliff Clavin on "Cheers", who kept throwing out his "little known facts" for 11 years? Cliff would never be able to exist today - because the moment he said his little-known fact, everyone at the bar would be reaching for their phones to see if he was correct.

There is a difference between a country that is majority Muslim and an Islamist country.

And that difference would be?
An Islamist is a person who advocates or supports Islamism, a political ideology that seeks to implement Islamic principles through Sharia law, in governance and societal structures. Unlike “Islamic or Muslim,” which broadly describes the religion of Islam or its cultural aspects, “Islamist” specifically refers to those who believe Islam should actively shape political systems, prioritizing religious law over secular frameworks.

Ah, so an Islamist is roughly the same as a Christian Nationalist--Got it.

Regardless, it was a stupid thing for Vance to say.

Trump: *says it was wrong for the IRS to investigate religious leaders and his supporters*

Q: “If that was wrong, why are you considering changing the tax status of Harvard?”

Trump: “Because I think Harvard is a disgrace…Tax-exempt status is a privilege…it’s been abused.”

Nice deflection from the answer.
Yes, you offered a new definition. But that's all you did--you didn't link your new definition to the discussion.

For instance, you did not explain what made England, where the official religion is Anglicanism, an Islamic state, nor did you explain why the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is not an Islamic state.

Your definition DID, though, offer an interesting parallel with Christian Nationalism. Did you not think so?

Roughly translated, "Because I'm MAD at them!"
