You always come across as a thoughtful guy, but putting that though in our heads just seems kind of cruel.
I keep reading everyone saying that if Tua stays then Mac leaves. It just makes me think of this year - Tua stays, Jalen leaves, then Tua gets hurt. Except next year, no Mac. No QB in his 3rd year in the system.

Next year, if Tua stays you really need Mac to stay. Otherwise the dropoff will be HUGE.

And kind of on flip side, if Jalen stayed, real possibility Bama does not drop to Auburn and Jalen is playing on a team with legit title shot, OK is not legit title contender. So Bama needs to keep Mac.
Hopefully Brice Young is as good as some people seem to think. But now I think I will try to read up on him more.

I don't know if it would be huge. I think if Tua leaves Mac will really have to be sharp to hold off Young. Yes, Mac would have experience with the system but Tua stepped in on the biggest stage as a freshman with little experience and got the job done. Fields transferred to Ohio State and didn't have any problem learning OSU's system. I think a really good coach changes the system to fit the QB rather than force the QB to change to fit the system.

You think that of Young, but you don't know it. My point is that you have had known quantities as backups for a few years. Next year you probably won't. If Tua stays, he needs to protect himself, for himself and the team.

Whew...I haven't check this thread in a couple of days.

On the possibility of Tua staying and then not being able to play. I guess anything is possible, but he's projected to make a full recovery and that projection was from a "football" perspective. And the timeline on this was closer to 6 months than a year (as previously feared).

So, if he's going to have the kind of trouble that would keep him from being able to play next year, I think the first indications would be very early (like right now) that things aren't progressing as planned and his transition to walking without a walker would be delayed. So unless we are hearing things aren't going well right now I think we are borrowing worries.

Just saw that Tua and the guy Sewell from Oregon won Co-Polynesian Player of the year. Good for Tua. He won it last year by himself. I guess since he was injured they did a Co winner this year?

Also read that Christian Harris, Shane Lee, Evan Neal got Freshman All American.

Nothing against Mac, but there will be too many young guys with more potential. A lot of teams would love to have Mac.
Outside of Bryce Young (who may very well need some time when he gets here), I'm not sure we can definitively say there's another QB on our roster who has more potential than Mac. Like everyone else, I would love for Tua to come back. But losing Mac would be a big loss.

I’m more worried about the high school senior everyone is pumping not being here in 2021 when he doesn’t beat out Mac Jones than Mac leaving this off-season.

Unless you have some insight into the practices and such, I don’t know how you can make that assumption.

We've got people making assumptions that a HS quarterback who has yet to play a down of FBS football will probably beat out Mac Jones next season. A "Mac Jones" that has proven he can compete on the FBS level and perform at a high level in big games. So why not let everyone assume away?

Most of it is because he is very comparable to Tua in highschool in making reads, and accurate throws that the typical high school stud doesn't, and the fact that Lia hasn't really pushed Mac for the #2 spot.

I fully expect that Mac is our starter vs USC, and probably UGA next year unless Bryce just totally outplays him in spring and fall. I think he is a lot better than what most here believe, but then again a lot of people keep calling him a Greg McElroy quarterback when he is closer to an AJ McCarron if we are calling him a game manager.

I could probably go back through the years and find threads about QBs who were going to do that to QBs who were already here. Seems to be a common thought.

Only way anyone is beating out Mac is if he turns the ball over a ton.

Bryce Young looks great but he is also too small to start right away (though fortunately for him he's an early enrolling so that should help his cause). And, he's probably not Tua. Very few QBs are Tua

Tua is most likely going #4 to the Dolphins. If you look at the draft order today it makes a lot of sense that he would land there. The obvious caveat is Tua has to show that his recovery is going well and everything remains on course for full recovery. That is the assumption as we know it now. Dolphins have Fitzpatrick under contract for next year so Tua takes a "redshirt" year to get fully healthy and adjust to the speed of the game. Tua then takes over as the starter in 2021. JMO..

I'm not suggesting BY starts next year (assuming he signs today) or that he's better than the other person he's being compared to. But there's a reason lots of folks are "high" on this guy.

Going to drop this here for you to consider:

Bryce Young's high school stats. Total Passing Yards 13,250 Passing TDs 152 Rushing TD's 26
Tua Tagovailoa's high school stats. Total passing yards 8,158 Passing TD's 84 Rushing TD's 27
