Tubby Smith

I sort of think that Grant will be the #1 target. BTW, I'm not saying that I agree personally with the idea of the "big name coexistence" position. FWIW, I don't think CM does either. I also think the odds of the midyear change may be growing, for a couple of reasons...

For whatever reason, I'm glad. I have not been to a BB game since year before last because I could not watch Bama win up until half and then give the game away. My blood pressure could not take it. I am looking forward to a new coach and being able to really compete and finish the game.

I agree. I think the interesting thing will be the terms surrounding his release. IMO, the distractions are mounting and it will be harder and harder to avoid a snowball situation.

I would just like to see someone who has a good system come into T-Town and get the job done. There have been far too many Bama Bball games where our team looks lost on the floor and CMG looks bewildered on the sideline, as if he has no idea what to do. Coaches with a real system rarely seem to have that problem. I think a coach with a real system would have done much better with the talent that we have had during the CMG era. He can get the groceries, but has never been much of a cook.

As for coaches, I would like TR Dunn for his Bama roots, but someone like Anthony Grant may be hard to turn down as well. I would like Mike Anderson too. I think he did a great job at UAB. I also wonder if we could ever get someone like a Calipari to exit CUSA and prove that he can get the job done in a BCS conference. I know we probably would never pony up the cash for someone like that, but just a thought.

I really don't know why being an alum matters for them to be a coach. Besides, playing I don't really see what TR's "coaching" resume would add right now. Just because you are a good player doesn't mean you are a good coach.

At this point, I now know that CNS doesn't care what it takes to get the right coach. This would seem to open the door for a "big name."

CNS as in Coach Nick Saban? Is it going to be involved or am I reading something wrong? Me reading wrong is a very good possibillity right now since im going on 3 hours of sleep the past 2 days.

After last year I could no longer take it either. We have been season ticket holders (and still are) for 20 years and the last time I refused to go was the Hobbs era. I kept our tickets but let it be known that I would no longer attend games until CMG was replaced (I am also not the only one judging by which seats have been empty while watching the games on TV). Living in Tuscaloosa we hear a lot of stuff that hasn't been aired publically that makes me think the FF button is being hit on the episode of "What Happens to CMG at the end of the year"? I believe a lot of folks who actually have a say don't want the episode to drag on much longer. At this point I have trouble believing CMG lasts until the end of the year. We'll see. I just want Bama basketball to be relevant once again because it NEVER should be.

On a side note I would think CNS would take a vested interest in seeing a vibrant Basketball program because it is great to be able to bring recruits to see packed houses at the school they are thinking of going to because Basketball is often one of the favorite sports of guys playing football. The last game I saw in person was the game where we were all chanting JULIO! JULIO! Better 15K do that than 3,200. Just sayin'.

Does this mean that you no longer think that AG could be the top target? Is Tubby a serious contender? Would Mark Few want to come to the SEC? Answers...I must have answers Earle!!! :willy_nilly:

I didn't say that CM would have no influence. I just thought initially that he would have a great deal more than I think now. That's all...

Once again, Earle plays the role of the seer. We'll be waiting to see who you come up to replace him. :BigA:

Well, if you look back a couple of days, I tried to hint that the ax was going to fall pretty quickly. I'd like to keep the new coach speculation to the thread we have devoted to it...

I don't much care who is involved or what not I just want to enjoy the basketball program without that feeling in my gut that says don't get to excited about any game because the bottom is likely to fall out.

So here's to getting the right man for the job, and making us THE school of the SEC.

Well, this is sliding towards new HC speculation, thread II. I never said CNS would be involved, so I don't know where that came from. I just know that he will not be an obstacle to hiring anyone we want - at any price...
