I'm here to eat my crow, since I was the most vociferous of Oregon fans here, according to someone. Serve it hot or cold, steaming, boiled or fried, in a pie or plain and uncooked. It has been a disappointing and embarrassing season for our team. We don't deserve a shot to play you, maybe one day we will if we can pull it together. It's a humiliating day, even to post in here. The ship is headed in the wrong direction at this point. Yours is well on its way to another victory. You'll be legends remembered for many years. Maybe we'll just be another team that got within a field goal of a national championship. Not too bad for a team that came from out of nowhere without a solid recruiting base. Our once-in-a-lifetime coach left the building, taking the magic with him. His absence is painfully felt. I'll still aspire for more from this team, for new leaders to rise that won't take for granted what they've been handed. I fully expect to see Alabama hoisting another trophy this year, and will try to enjoy it as a college football fan witnessing a rare era, rather than a deflated fan let down from a disappointing season. Keep on doing what you're doing, you do it well.
I know how bad it sucks to lose a game, and I hate when people rub it in my face, so I won't rub it in buddy. I know you were just proud of your team and expected them to do great things...just like every Bama fan here thinks about our team. I have a feeling this loss has removed you from any BCS game contention, but I'm sure you'll still get a good bowl and a win out of it. Next year, Oregon will be back to winning high profile games (I guess no more BCS games next year) next year.

Keep the bill up Duck fan. I live in Atlanta (obviously) and remember when the UGA fans and players here were whining that the "had" to go to the Sugar Bowl and play West Virginia. They felt that was waaaayyy beneath them. We all know how that turned out.
Oregon was not the first team to do this nor will they be the last.
Just look what happened with USC at the Sun Bowl last year......And they had to endure getting clocked by GA Tech....GA TECH!!! after coming across like spoiled little children...Oh, wait...that was their coach doing that.
No matter how bad your day may seem, just remember how nice it always is to have this memory of Lane Kiffin being humiliated......Hope I could make you feel better.

Players gave up. They gave up after Stanford. There is an obvious coaching problem that needs to be addressed (preferably by some firings). Get back to basics. Respect the Rose Bowl, make it the seasonal goal, and if something happens beyond that, fine, but don't hang all hopes on it. Get bigger and better lines, get back to running the ball, which what the team was originally about. Crack down on player trash talking (fans are one thing, players are another), get a coach that commands respect, Helfrich does not.
I wouldn't blame the players giving up solely on the coaches. This reeks of entitlement mentality--not your post, but the attitudes of your players. The kids in Oregon are GIVEN EVERYTHING on a grand scale and THIS is how they thank those people? By giving up? It's shameful and I'm not surprised that Phil Knight was in Tuscaloosa fully decked in BAMA gear for the LSU game. He wants to support the kids who pay it back and forward on the field.

Duck fans need to demand more from the players. The coaches need to demand more from their players. Right now, they are acting like nursery school kids who are mad because they got their toys taken away. If the problem really has something to do with lack of control, then fans need to demand the coaches take back control. Embarrassing and shameful. "We don't want the Rose Bowl" has gotten them just that. NOT the Rose Bowl. Put them in the BBVA Compass Bowl so Bama fans can go to Birmingham and watch. I'd go!

Phil Knight is not abandoning his Ducks. He is selling Nike.

Saw this on another forum (Clicky), but thought it was funny.

EUGENE --- Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti said Oregon coach Mark Helfrich was “low class” at the end of the No. 5 Ducks’ 42-16 loss on Saturday, and he wants Helfrich to know it.

In an animated postgame session with the media, Aliotii took exception with Helfrich playing his starters the entire game and continuing to throw down to the final seconds.

“That’s total BS that [Marcus Mariota] threw the ball at the end of the game like he did," Aliotti said. “And you can print that and you can send it to him, and he can comment, too. I think it’s low class and it’s BS to throw the ball when the game is completely over against their kids that are basically their scout team."

As a reporter started asking another question, Aliotti added more.

“Make sure he knows that," Aliotti said. “Because I don’t really care."

“I am kind of stunned he would keep his quarterback and crew in there," Aliotti said. "But he did. They want stats, they got stats. But they got the most important stat and that’s the ‘W’ and they are happy about that."

After his initial comment about Helfrich leaving Mariota and his starters in, Aliotti later circled back to Helfrich, unprompted.

“I’m repeating myself, but again, in the end he’s still throwing at a time when most guys would try to end the game and go home," Aliotti said.

And I think you're ascribing more to Knight's motivations than are really there by comparing the attitudes of players on the team, citing the presence of Phil Knight.

Well, you can't be sure of his motivation. But, I think it is very interesting and speaks volumes that he came all the way to Tuscaloosa to watch us play. I like that he supports the teams who have helped make him very wealthy. And, I still think he may have some level of disgust or disappointment in the Ducks. Especially if they are imploding like an interview posted somewhere above suggests.

I think the comming in here & explaining how football is done touched more than a few nerves.
so thanks for coming back in.

We have witnessed having the Greatest football coach in the history of the game at Alabama in Coach Bryant & after having gone thru the poor handling of his program (except Bebes) we now have a Coach that reminds us so much of our Dear Coach Bryant.

Coach Saban has restored a greatness to Alabama not with gimmicks, tricks, & showing up opponents but with the same tough standards.

What scares me is when other teams figure out just how simple CNS makes it they will copy it. But until then we appreciate not just what CNS does bit the way he does it.

That is why you just won't see coaches or players ever talking like this at Alabama.

Way to step up. It's hard to do.
Oregon has to start by giving some of the team an attitude adjustment.
Don't know if that means the same thing in Duck Country as it does in Alabama, but you get my drift.
If I were changing Oregon, I'd recruit a big strong line, and run the ball till someone stopped me,
then I'd pass.
It takes a tougher team to do it this way, but you wouldn't be pushed around by Stanford...
Build a tough Defense... It's simple, if they don't score on you, your likely to win.
BTW: My advice would be to stick with the 'Standard' Green Uniforms.
It's football not the GAP... (Forget being a 'Fashionista') ;)

If it were that easy Coach Saban wouldn't be the best anymore. You have to do more than just "copy" someone, I can copy Ford's F150 (which is one of if not the most successful trucks in the world) but if I can't market it, build it just as nice, and make it just as dependable as Ford does then I'm out of business in 2-3 years. Same goes for any coach trying to copy Coach Saban.

As for Oregon, as long as they recruit Athletes just for offense they will never get anywhere. One of these days people will learn it takes more than a flashy no huddle offense to win a national title. It is no surprise all the past teams lately have had stout defenses. You'll have your few exceptions but they are far and few between. The only team I've seen so far with a no huddle offense that comes close to a decent defense was Baylor and we seen what happened to them...

That is why CNS preaches about one play at a time and during you best on that one play. Do your best at your offseason training etc. the Process is something all teams and people should really look at if they are truly interested in becoming the best at whatever it is they want to succeed at. We may get tired of hearing about it but repetition is what you need for it to become a habit. The program has everything the need to succeed. Now it is up to the players and coaches to "just do it" and not to "just expect it" because the "Experts" on ESPN say you're unstoppable. Words never make it so. Roll Tide.

When I hear players talking about being "dis-respected" because they are getting exactly what they have earned (in Oregon's case it was the Rose Bowl) instead of what they think they have earned ..... it always reminds me of the TCU (CUSA) players in the 2003 season. Late in the season TCU players began complaining publicly that they "deserved" to be in the BCS championship game. Then, the very next week, TCU (10-0) went and lost 28-40 at S Mississippi (7-3). TCU finished 10-2 by losing to Boise in the Fort Worth Bowl. It appeared the FWB was where they belonged, since they lost it, instead of the BCS Championship game, LOL.

Great post!

One other thing, keeping a team focused, "getting their mind right" has to be the hardest think a coach does.

Without outstanding Leaders on the team this just can not happen no matter the talent, schemes or size/speed.

See the Alabama 2010 team for a clear example, then look at this years team.
