Gillberry gave a 7th round pick up for a free agent deal with the giants. Castille and Britt to Bengals. Hall is still in negotiations. I got this from AL.com. So regardless, Gillberry could have been drafted and we wouldn't be shutout.

Update: Hall will join Gillberry with the Giants, and Caddell is going to St. Lois.

Gillberry going as a free agent might have been a better deal for him personally than getting drafted at that point.

It's probably true. For guys that are around that late in the draft sometimes it's better to go the free agent route because then you get to pick the team you sign with instead of the other way around. You can go to a team that you feel best fits your strengths as a player thus giving you at least some chance of making the team.

WOW!!! Wallace deserves this and more. Joining the defending Super Bowl Champs. The only thing sweeter now is him making the team and them repeating since he has always wanted to be a champ. He will continue to play with that chip on his shoulders until he finally hears the word "champion" next to his name. I wish him the best.

If I ran a team and found Gilberry around late in the seventh?..... "Sorry Wallace but rules are rules".

If its better to go free agent than a 7th round draft selection, the NFL should eliminate the 7th round. These late round picks are not considered valuable anyway. You never hear of a team packaging a 6th or 7th round pick in a trade...its always the top 4-5 rounds where teams feel they can find some value. The 6th round is where you take a flyer on certain guys with potential and the 7th has become the place where you flesh out your training camp roster with bodies.

If the NFL wants to give fans something to watch, may be start the draft on Friday night with the first two rounds. Have 3-6 on Saturday and Sunday at noon, have the commissioner come out and announce all free agent signings team by team.

I said the 6th round is where you take a flyer on certain guys who you feel may have potential...Tom Brady was drafted by the New England Patriots in the sixth round (199th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft.

New England didn't go shopping for the top QB in NFL history in the sixth round. They thought he might work out as a passable back-up. Dice it anyway you want, but 6th and 7th round picks rarely become top NFL players and most don't make the team.
