Weather thread, Part II

FWIW, two colleagues (one of which is a fellow nominee on a Grammy-nominated project this year) lost their homes today, and one lost his studio as well. I have many friends / clients who are in danger of losing their homes and / or studios, so this is something that hits very close to home for me.
The arsonist fire (Kenneth) is closest to my SIL, but still about 40 miles. I found out my grandson is still up in Oregon, so I feel a bit better about that. The SIL had to be evacuated a few years ago during the Ventura Fire. She had to have a professional remediation firm remove the smoke residue...

I'm surprised at the amount of melt we have here - it's currently 32* and sunny, but on my ruck this AM I saw that the main streets are all mainly clear (some even dry) and even the side streets are drivable. Far less ice than I expected to find today. This pleases me considering we ended up with about 7" yesterday.

It's about three blocks out to where the street is scraped and salted. Between here and there, there're still about 6" of snow. We could get out, if we had to. I have a 4WD Taco and Liz has an AWD Subaru Forester...

Jillian and I managed to pull off a snowman even with the golden doofus trying to eat the thing the whole time.

Heh. We used to have a yellow lab who lived for chasing tennis balls. When we had snow I'd throw snowballs to him. He'd catch them, they'd disintegrate, and then he'd look around trying to figure out where the ball went.

There’s a reason I always call him a doofus. For being so smart those “dumber than a bag of hammers” moments come frequently.

Yeah, our current dog, a pit bull/Australain Shepherd mix, is pretty smart, but he's so hyper and eager to please that it'sw hard to believe he has any functioning brain cells. I usually call him Doof.

Here, he's about to be eaten by the sofa:

I tend to forget that our pets look to us as parental figures. Today, our older cat, who is a in/out cat gave me her little "I want to go out" call. Well, she's small and she doesn't like snow. The only time she's gone out in it, she never got further away than a few feet, staying out maybe ten minutes and didn't ask to go out since. So, I tried to talk her out of it. She kept insisting and leading me towards our west end, which indicates she wants to go out on the deck to the patio. I followed her, still trying to talk her out of it. Well, you have to go through our mudroom to get to the door to the deck and, instead of proceeding on, she jumped up on the window seat looking out on the back yard, still covered in snow. Then, she started looking out at it and then looking back at me. Then, it dawned on me. She might as well be saying "Daddy, make all that disgusting wet cold stuff go away. I know you can!" All I could do was offer soothing words and an ear scratch. Then, she curled up on one of the heating pads and settled down. (Both cats have a heating pad.)
