Question: What does this UGA/aTm game tell us about our opponent?

Maybe texas players will see the beat down the sec put on atm and cower with fear. But somehow i doubt it.

A&M did pretty well on O the first half when there QB broke contain and either passed or ran successfully. Same as he did in the game w/UT. In the second half, GA did a better job of keeping the QB in the pocket and pushing the pressure right in his face. He couldn't run and started throwing while backing up. Thus, the interceptions. The "keep him in the pocket" method was pretty much our successful strategy against VA tech/FL, etc. so we obvioulsy know how to plan and execute it. A&M did well against the run in the first half but finally wore down in the 4th Qtr.

I'm not sure but it tells me Sherman better put his house on the market soon and find a place to rent. After this past season and his team's performance in Shreveport last night, he is a "dead man walking". Enter Tubs.

I saw tons of mistakes by Georgia as well. Off-sides, late hit, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc. etc. etc.
Georgia has to be one of the most poorly-disciplined teams I have seen in a while. They are almost completely out of control. If they eliminated those dumb "lack of discipline" mistakes, they might be a pretty good team.

Yah, Richt has the talent in place, without question.

A&M's mistakes - especially in the special teams - were critically bad.
 
I'm going with not much. A&M had a whole bunch of yards on offense but special team screw ups killed them. The offense just gave up at the end.
 
A&M dominated the first half. Held UGA to 99 yards total offense but gave up a KO return for TD, blocked punt (resulted in TD from 2).

In the 2nd half more of the same. Snap over punter's head resulted in TD. A&M had a blocked FG and then quit trying to kick FGs outside the 25.

UGA looked good once A&M gave up in the 2nd half. 2 horrible throws for interceptions that were return back into Aggie land.

If they played again tomorrow it could go either way. A&M could have beaten them without all the mistakes. I was glad UGA won though.

I gotta tell ya Earle I watched this whole game and even before half-time I kept asking myself this is the team that scored 39 on that GREAT texas defense they love to brag about?????? I know they will say rivalry or bad night but hey BAMA has had only 3 opponents score over 20 and only 1 too reach the 24 point mark VT the opening game......

I feel better about our offense going against them now than I did before it that says anything because UGA is about what 6th best in the SEC and they spanked aTm...............

No but there is no doubt they watched that game and was asking themselves how in the world did they score 39 on us ?????????

I watched the game and while many on here say aTm dominated to me that is BS... Domination is whipping them on the field and scoreboard kinda like the SECCG..... Getting 1,000 yds is not domination unless you are scoring 1,000 points.... UGA made the adjustment to contain that GREAT big12 QB and stop letting him run around then it was over~!~ UGA defense???? Come on~!~:eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2:
 
Well you have to give GA credit where it's due and the fact that Richt fired his DC and 2 other defensive coaches and still managed to hold A&M to 20 is remarkable.

The first half GA was not staying in their lanes and Johnson was breaking containment plus as others said their tackling was poor to say the least.
The second half GA did what winners must and that is take advantage of the other teams mistakes.

I also think this is a good example (A&M) of depending entirely too much on the QB to not only pass but carry the bulk of the running game as well.
 
UGA's defense was so far out of position on some snaps in the first half you wondered in they even looked at game film. They had as many penalties in the game as Bama has had all year. Their O-line has been weak all year and they looked like road-graters once they committed to the run. Question: What would a solid O-line and top-tier running backs do to that defense? I think 300 would be involved. Also, A&M's offense playing a sound defense that sticks to its assignments goes nowhere. Period.

Something tells me that Texas is wanting a shootout. One cannot possibly believe that they want to see a battle of running games. That will be their first big hurdle. They say they can stop the running game and I think they will have to prove it early and often which is precisely why I think Bama will try to stretch the field in the first series.
 
I think all bets are off this time. Each team has had the same amount of time to prepare. It won't be a cakewalk for either team. As usual, I am beginning to get butterflies about this game.

I too usually get the butters but the last few games I just cannot seem to get them and with this one coming I still have yet to feel nervous... :) Maybe I am starting to believe in the process again.......
I will say this to help you relax a little, normally BAMA has to go into a game and make a team one dimensional by stopping the run. This game is already set up that way and really there are only 2 offensive threats McCoy and Shipley.. Not a knock on texas but honestly that is their offense, defensively we shall see~!~:wink:

Good point. I didn't think about that. Not to mention seven of the Tenn points came from a very uncharacteristic Mark Ingram fumble. I don't think we'll see too many of those in the BCSCG. That was an understatement btw.

Whenever I get them I just think of all Texas has to do to win...their O line was hasn't been very consistent at all this year and seem to have been getting worse are going to have to get it together and don't have a chance to test it against actual opponents before us. Colt McCoy will have to have a career game at the end of a great career that will be hard to match. Their defense, which hasn't faced any real serious running threats or O lines designed to run block are going to have the best rushing attack in the nation behind an O line that is really peaking right now. On top of that, they haven't faced many great passing attacks either. Texas Tech's replacement for Graham Harrell put up 420 passing yards on them. Oklahoma's replacement for Sam Bradford put up 327. That A&M kid put up 342 on them. We haven't given up 342 or more against a single opponent this year, and Texas' secondary alone game that and more up against A&M and Tech.
 
If you didn't know the score and you examined the stats, you'd think that aTm won.

I didn't see the game but its obvious that Georgia must have had some out of the ordinary scoring opps. Of course I am glad the Georgia won them being a SEC team.

If you look at the stats between Texas and aTm, they are pretty even.

Regardless of the stats, the fact that Georgia (a comparatively weaker SEC team) beat a team (by 24 pts!) that played a statistically even game with Texas, bodes well I think.

Caveat:

Making conclusions from past events is a risky business.
