Question: What does this UGA/aTm game tell us about our opponent?

If you didn't know the score and you examined the stats, you'd think that aTm won.

I didn't see the game but its obvious that Georgia must have had some out of the ordinary scoring opps. Of course I am glad the Georgia won them being a SEC team.

If you look at the stats between Texas and aTm, they are pretty even.

Regardless of the stats, the fact that Georgia (a comparatively weaker SEC team) beat a team (by 24 pts!) that played a statistically even game with Texas, bodes well I think.

Caveat:

Making conclusions from past events is a risky business.

If only the Bama team would draw conclusions from this game . . .

Seriously, if you watched the game, you know this was entirely about special teams. If A&M, as they are prone to do, hadn't messed themselves on special teams, they probably win this game.

Keep telling yourselves Texas isn't good defensively. You'll find out soon enough how incredibly incorrect that statement is. Texas won't have a picnic on offense either, but I'll be shocked if Bama scores much without help from turnovers or special teams. Same for both sides, frankly. Turnovers and special teams decide the NCG IMO.

No one is saying Tejas D isn't good. We're simply stating that they haven't faced anyone who will pound on you for 60 minutes until your ... quits.

Impossible to agree with that. There's going to be a hell of a lot more to the game than that. It's going to be a struggle between two contrasting styles of play and the game will likely be decided between the two LOS's more than ST breaks...

Not sure where you get that BAMA thinks you are not that good defensively but the biggest thing I see almost every BAMA saying is that texas while they are good at defending spread pass happy teams has not had to devote their time in stopping a power running team that is pretty good at passing but really good at running.
If you have watched ANY of our games you would see that our running game is nothing like anything you have played all year long. Our passing game might not be the best you have seen but then again when I look at the teams you guys have played we might just be better because of the running game.

I would love to draw conclusions from Texas and Georgia's performance against aTm - but we had similar struggles against Auburn which we assume will not carry forward. Also, Jerrod threw a horrible game, a one-man game loser, almost like he put money on Georgia. But he threw a lovely touchdown late in Q2, so he showed glimpses of the skill that worried Texas so much.
