What's going on with Ryan Williams?

I think he’s mismatched in this offense. Someone on X pointed out how J. Smith-Njigba’s production exploded this year for Seattle. Grubb had him in the slot last year. He’s playing out wide mostly this year.

The drops are probably due to the mental factors of being out of position.
I don't think the coaches don't do enough to get the ball to him. There are other receivers that are small and fast and very productive. It doesn't seem like they throw it his way very often to get his confidence back. He has to get rid of the drops but I can remember when Julio had that problem at Bama for a while and finally worked his way though it. He can be the game changer if we can get some routes that will get him open or get him one on one. Have faith...... if Bama doesn't, some other team will.

Well, maybe that, along with learning to catch with his hands instead of his body…which is something I thought you learned in grade school, but maybe not.

A talented kid, if a little immature. He has developed some bad habits. The remarks about contact and hands are true but he can still be electric with the ball. I would love to see the coaches develop him better. I'm sure they see the same thing, on film, that we do. If he leaves, they will have failed him IMO.
Failed him? Did they drop the balls thrown to him? Did they teach him to not want to block? Maybe he don't want to play slot.....so what. He's getting paid. He needs to do his job.

But Julio blocked and did all the other intangibles. Not to mention he played for a WHILE with a broken hand and still played and made big plays for us.

That’s what they were trying to do by having him return punts against OU.

RW is best in the open field/long routes.

He's worse in traffic when he's going to get hit.

But here's the rub. Outside of getting him out wide and running some homerun routes for him down the field (which I wish we might try more), the best way to use him is streaking across the middle, but that exposes him to getting hit and this is why he drops so many passes.

This is probably why they've put him in the slot. But it doesn't seem to be working.
