When Teague intercepted Torretta in the 3rd quarter of the '93 Sugar Bowl, the entire dome was shaking. I took an involuntary beer shower as cups were flying down from the upper deck. I was high-fiving people that were two and three rows away.

Barker to Malone for 6 from mid-field with about 10 minutes remaing in the '94 GA game .
LCN you are right. When I first read the thread title, my immediate thought was that game.

The loudest single roar I can remember was actually at Tiger Stadium in 2008 when they blocked the FG to force overtime. Of course, that just made the OT win that much sweeter.

They really pulled out all the stops for that one. I remember their PA guy coming over the system, I think between the 3rd ond 4th quarters, and saying "It's 5 o'clock. The sun is setting in the West. It's nightime at Tiger Stadium." They went pretty berserk over that one too.

Did I mention we still won that one?

To me the loudest was at LSU in 2008. When they blocked that field goal it was loud.

But the loudest sound was that darn cannon that Ole Miss use to fire off. Good gosh that could cause one to go deaf.

**Sorry RamJamHam read all the post till the last page and thought I read them all. But I agree it was LOUD in that stadium when they blocked the field goal.**

I still have the taped radio broadcast of the 92 SEC Championship Game. When Langham intercepts Matthews and takes off for the TD you can't really even hear Eli Gold's call because of the crowd, and they filter crowd noise in the radio booth.

sip

One of the loudest roars I ever heard was when Roman Harper blocked the ball out just as the UT RB was about to cross our goal line. The loudest sound was a cannon about ten years ago. It wasn't OM, but somebody we don't play regularly. It was in the EZ, and we were given no warning. It felt like a slap up against the side of my head, and I had just been diagnosed with Menieres disease and my hearing was screwed up already...

I'm going to go with the '96 Iron Bowl, Legion Field. When Freddie Kitchens hit Dennis Riddle for the game-tying TD (extra point put us ahead). The girl next to me got knocked out in the celebration (she still doesn't remember the TD). It was an absolute mad-house!

Gonna go old school: Van Tiffen's 52-yd FG to win the Iron Bowl in Legion Field back in 85 (I think...).

But then, I am old & all...;)

Yes, I think I would have to go with Van Tiffen's kick. These are all great memories.

How about the "Loudest Road Crowd SILENCED by Bama?" I think of blocked field goals against Penn State in '89 and Tennessee in '90 (setting up a win, and a FG to win, respectively). It's downright paranormal when 80-90,000 fans stop screaming in an instant. And that corner of Bama fans in those big stadiums just LIGHTIN IT UP!!

I've been going to Alabama games since 1966. Not an unbroken string, but I've seen more than a few.

For sustained noise for a whole game, not a specific play, the 2005 Florida game is the best. That it followed Urban Legend's statement about the game plan being "infallible,' (his words), was icing. For the only time in my 44 years of personally witnessing Alabama games, my ribs were sore and I was resting hands on knees because I was tired from yelling. We didn't know that the Shula thing was a flash in the pan, and we didn't know the extent of Prothro's injury, but that sweet feeling was reminiscent of anything the 1970s had to offer. And I was there then.

For any given specific play, the stadium acoustics of the day play in.

I saw Van Tiffin's kick against Auburn, and I saw Roman Harper causd the fumble against Tennessee.

But as far as pure crowd noise on one play, the two best were Peprah's interception against Georgia in 2002, and Caddell's catch against Arkansas in 2007.

At the time for both, we thought we'd shaken the post-Bryant / NCAA probation / general malaise monkey off our backs with a single dramatic play. Turns out, neither was true. We lost the 2002 Georgia game when the dawgs drove for a FG late, and we didn't know the hill we still had to climb after Caddell in 2007. But on those days, for those moments, it was cartharsis at 120+ decibels.

Cody's block this year was more relief. So as significant as the play was to the 2009 NC, I can't say the noise was that great. UT had lucked out with Ingram's only lost fumble to date, a missed assignment that allowed a TD pass, and a recovered onsides kick, just to get to the point of attempting a 40+ yard FG. How lucky can you be???

Interesting topic, though. The two loudest plays I can remember turned out not to be that significant in the long run, and the more significant plays generated noise, but not at that level.

I've been to more than a few 'Bama games in my life, and I would add a few thoughts:

  • The 2009 Tennessee game wasn't that loud, at least on a historical level. As someone mentioned earlier, it was really more of pure relief. I didn't even cheer, I just collapsed back into my seat like I'd just won a game of Russian Roulette.

  • In terms of start-to-finish, consistent levels of sound throughout the game, hands down the 2005 Florida game is tops. That place was literally rocking during the commercial breaks. Easily the best consistent atmosphere I've seen at any football game I've ever attended ('Bama or no).

  • As best I remember, Legion Field in '85 wasn't that loud. That was back in the days of 50-50 ticket split, and as best I recall it there was more pure shock (on both sides) than anything else. Neither side could believe their own eyes.

  • The 1994 Georgia game was big. In terms of the loudest games at Bryant-Denny before it really expanded, that was easily the loudest. I think it's easy to forget all of these years later how hyped Zeier was.

  • Oddly enough, the Goal Line Stand wasn't that loud. It was loud, of course, but you have to keep in mind that was a completely different era. Crowds tended to be a bit more reserved then, plus Penn State had a lot of fans there too.

  • Another one that wasn't that loud... 315. Everyone was elated with the result of course, but there were as many tears as there was cheers.

  • The single loudest moment we've ever had, bar none, no rational dissent can be made... George Teague's interception return for a touchdown against Miami. When he went around end with that ball and it was clear he was going to score, everyone knew that national title was ours. Neutral site or not, that was a home game (probably 95% 'Bama fans), and mixed with the acoustics of the dome, you could effectively feel the entire structure shaking underneath you. I remember there was a stretch right before he crossed the end zone where it go so loud that my hearing just absolutely shut down... I really couldn't hear anything until Miami had ran a few plays afterward.

Regarding consistent levels of noise, I've always thought the Barners were pretty loud in 1989...they were soooo happy to have us on the plains, and of course, they won. I remember looking over at their student section. They were shaking paper shakers that left a dust haze over the stadium, and their cheering was deafening...it was so loud that it sounded quiet in a way. Anyway, I've always thought of the 1989 UA vs. AU game as the loudest game I've ever attended, and I've attended almost every game mentioned in this thread.

The loudest full game I watched was 2005 against Florida, like many others in this post. The loudest single cheer I remember was 2009 against Auburn, the Rammmer Jammer was an outpouring of pent up frustration.
